THE CAPTIONED LIFE SHOW IS ON HOLD INDEFINITELY

The Significance Behind THIS Hawkeye Line

The Significance Behind THIS Hawkeye Line

Ever since Marvel Studios announced that a Disney+ Hawkeye series was in the works, I was hyped. At that time I gravitated to the Clint Barton/Kate Bishop team-up in the comics for a number of reasons. Knowing that the series was going to be based on the popular Matt Fraction/David Aja/Matt Hollingsworth run had me pumped.

When the series released its episode, I watched it first thing in the morning and didn’t dare to miss it. In fact, I was so obsessed with the show that I did a review and breakdown of each episode here on “The Captioned Life” after watching them.

And what I absolutely love about this series and the MCU is that you still learn and pick up new things the more you watch it. And Hawkeye is no exception.

Below is my TikTok video of a recent connection I made from the Hawkeye series:

If you recall, one of the themes that are explored in this show is grief and redemption. We see Clint struggling with the recent loss of his long-time partner, Natasha “Black Widow” Romanoff, from the events of Avengers: Endgame. The showrunners integrated many elements of this in the show, including juxtapositioning a scene where Clint’s protege, Kate Bishop, is thrown off the roof and giving the impression that she may have suffered the same fate as Natasha. After that moment, Clint wanted to separate himself away from Kate in order to protect her, saying “… things are getting very real, very quickly.”

By the final episode of Hawkeye Season 1, we see Clint has finally accepted Kate as his new partner in a sense, even giving her the encouraging line “give them hell” before they faced off with the Traksuit Mafia (bro).

Although that line may have seemed like it didn’t have any real significance, I came across a clip from Avengers: Age Of Ultron where Clint says the same thing to Natasha before he dropped her and her motorcycle in the middle of a battlefield from his fighter plane.

Looking at those two lines, it is such a cool and powerful detail to show Clint’s development of grief from losing his longtime partner to finally accepting a new one. God, I love this show.
