Legendary Comic Artist John Romita, Sr. Passes Away

John Romita, Sr., best known for his work on The Amazing Spider-Man and Daredevil and credited with co-creating popular characters such as Mary Jane Watson, Kingpin, and Wolverine, passed away on June 12th, 2023. He was 93. 

His son, John Romita, Jr. who is also a comics artist, confirmed the news on Twitter. 

Born in 1930 and raised in Brooklyn, Romita attended and graduated from Manhattan's School of Industrial Art in 1947. He joined Timely Comics (Marvel Comics' predecessor) in 1949. Since then, he went on to work for DC Comics from 1958 through 1965, then he joined Marvel Comics in 1965. Romita went on to become Art Director at Marvel Comics in 1973. In his lifetime, he won an Inkpot Award (1979), was inducted into the Will Eisner Hall of Fame (2002), as well as inducted into the Inkwell Awards Joe Sinnott Hall Of Fame (2020).
