Speaker 1
Hey, everyone, thank you for joining us. And this is your first time. Thanks for checking us out. If you're returning. Listener, Thanks for coming back. As you may know, I absolutely love Christmas and the holidays and everything about it. It's my favorite holiday of the year and I always love going all out for it, discussing anything about it.

00:00:47:10 - 00:01:07:17
Speaker 1
Now that we've been celebrating the holiday for a while with Christmas coming up shortly, I thought this would be a great time to talk about favorite and not so favorite things about this holiday. And just like the holidays, it's not real unless you're fighting someone about it. So I invited some longtime friends of mine from the Paperweight Entertainment podcast to discuss slash fight about some of these common holiday topics.

00:01:07:17 - 00:01:26:03
Speaker 1

And Ian Torrance is the co-host of Paperweight Entertainment, Silver Screen Scoundrels and the Horror, you know, podcast. He is a big Batman fan as well as a DC fan in general. He grew up watching animated shows like Batman, Spiderman and the X-Men, which really helped him with getting into comics and comics related video games. Derek and Ian, welcome to the show.

00:01:47:18 - 00:01:49:16
Speaker 3
How is it going? Man? Thanks for having us.

00:01:49:17 - 00:01:51:13
Speaker 4
Thank you for that amazing interest on the show.

00:01:53:07 - 00:01:55:07
Speaker 3
You know better than anything Ian's used to hearing.

00:01:57:01 - 00:02:01:19
Speaker 2
I wasn't going to say it out loud. That's including my.

00:02:01:19 - 00:02:02:06
Speaker 4
Intros.

00:02:02:17 - 00:02:04:21
Speaker 2
Yeah. Yeah. Well, you.

00:02:04:21 - 00:02:18:04
Speaker 1
Know, I get a lot of people who said that, you know, they feel like the. The intro is, like, really good. And honestly, it's all what you guys really. I'm just saying it out loud. I'm sure. Ian, you like feeling, you know, the fact that you're probably not getting knocked down.

00:02:18:23 - 00:02:19:13
Speaker 2
Podcast.

00:02:19:17 - 00:02:19:21
Speaker 1
Like.

00:02:19:21 - 00:02:28:05
Speaker 4
You usually do. Yeah, we just started there. We've been here for 20 seconds. Yeah, well, your time for me to get rolled over.

00:02:28:14 - 00:02:28:22
Speaker 2
Well.

00:02:28:22 - 00:02:46:01
Speaker 1
And this is going to be interesting because, you know, we were talking about this before, so recording both of you or feeling, you know, kind of, you know, a little bit sick right now and just not feeling well right now. My trackpad on my computer is starting to spaz out. So this might be just like a hysterical holiday movie.

00:02:46:11 - 00:02:48:05
Speaker 2
Know everything that could go.

00:02:48:05 - 00:03:07:08
Speaker 1
Wrong is going wrong. It is probably the most entertaining episode that we'll ever have, though. Well, let's get started. And I like to ask all of our guests to come on the show the same question. And, Derek, we'll start with you. And the question is, what is your comic origin story? What was it that got you into? It was an event.

00:03:07:08 - 00:03:14:18
Speaker 1
Was it a person? Was it just a random you picked it up one day and absolutely fell in love with it. What is it that got you into comics?

00:03:15:15 - 00:03:28:08
Speaker 3
So what got me into comics? Like a lot of people of my age, I was born in the mid eighties and is the cartoons that we had growing up in the late 1880s, early 1999, nineties, my stutter is coming in. I was not feeling well.

00:03:28:08 - 00:03:32:07
Speaker 4
I was laughing at you saying like a lot of people my age when I was born.

00:03:33:18 - 00:03:34:24
Speaker 3
Okay, we had that.

00:03:36:00 - 00:03:39:01
Speaker 2
Feeling like, you know.

00:03:39:20 - 00:03:43:02
Speaker 3
Ian's getting feisty. We're not on our show. All right, I'm not.

00:03:43:14 - 00:03:44:14
Speaker 2
It made me laugh.

00:03:44:22 - 00:04:04:18
Speaker 3
Like a lot of people that were born in the eighties, I grew up on nineties cartoons and those cartoons being, you know, the Ninja Turtles, the Iron Man is the big one. Captain or Captain America Batman, the Animated Series, Spider-Man, the Animated series. Those are the ones I was trying to say. But the biggest one for me was Iron Man.

00:04:05:01 - 00:04:26:22
Speaker 3
You know, for anybody that's watching the video here, you can see a lot of Iron Man behind me. He is my favorite superhero of all time and has been since I saw the first episode of Iron Man, the animated series, when I was nine years old. So for me, because anybody that listens to our show knows that we're in a really small town, we did not have a comic book shop growing up.

00:04:26:22 - 00:04:56:22
Speaker 3
None of my family were into the comics in any way, shape or form, not even collecting, you know, trading cards, nothing like that. So my entry was 100% from the TV shows and then the toys that came from those TV shows. I'm a big toy guy and and that was really what did it. And then I didn't start actually getting into comic books proper until I was in high school because I had to get my own money to set up a direct to individual subscription through Marvel to get Iron Man and Ultimate Spider-Man.

00:04:56:22 - 00:05:08:02
Speaker 3
Those were the first two subscriptions that I had. Excuse me. So yeah, mostly mostly the cartoons from the nineties is what? What did it? And then I was kind of hooked ever since.

00:05:08:02 - 00:05:08:20
Speaker 1
How about you, Ian?

00:05:09:22 - 00:05:35:03
Speaker 4
It's very similar to Derek. Like Derek. I was, I was born in the mid eighties, so we'd be around the same age. So I grew up watching pretty much what he named not a lot of Iron Man because there was, there was only like a few seasons of, of that, which I guess technically Batman the animated series was it was huge for me.

00:05:35:03 - 00:05:53:08
Speaker 4
And then going into like the New Adventures of Batman. But yeah, Derek's right. We didn't have a comic book store around here. You would get very lucky. And every now and again when you'd go to Walmart, they'd have this little like three pack of comics, and it would just be random comics thrown in a three pack that they would just throw out there.

00:05:53:21 - 00:06:17:21
Speaker 4
So I would get a few of those kind of growing up or like we went out of town somewhere, like to the mall or something. There'd be some random comics and I'd I'd like to said my experience was watching the cartoons like Derek. It was a it was a Batman animated series. I did watch the Iron Man and the animated series, but my main shows were Batman, the Spider-Man, the animated series, and excellent animated series.

00:06:17:21 - 00:06:26:19
Speaker 4
Those are the ones I would watch religiously. I back then, I actually like the Fantastic Four show, but now it is hot garbage. I can't go back and watch that cartoon.

00:06:27:07 - 00:06:27:11
Speaker 2
If.

00:06:27:12 - 00:06:47:08
Speaker 4
It did not age well at all. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, that's that's pretty much. And then the toys I had a lot of the which still have some of their pretty rough shape I wish I would have like kept them pristine but I loved the you guys remember the Batman the animated series, the killer series of toys. Yeah those are my those are my favorite.

00:06:47:08 - 00:07:04:10
Speaker 4
And I just thought it was so funny because I watched that cartoon religiously. I still watch it to this day. And there was like 14 different versions of Batman. It was like the Ninja Jitsu version, the armored truck version and all these things. I'm like, None of these are in the cartoon, so I don't know where any of this shit is coming from.

00:07:04:10 - 00:07:24:15
Speaker 4
Yeah, but, but I had them and they were cool, the really cool toys. And to this day, like I said, I still get into that and I kind of reminisce on my childhood of like all those awesome toys. And as you can see, I've got some stuff in the background. I started collecting because of a there's this, this wrestler that I randomly started following.

00:07:24:15 - 00:07:42:15
Speaker 4
I don't know how familiar you guys are with wrestling, but a has a guy named Dan Howson. Okay. Dan Howson is a huge toy collector and, and then I started talking to Derek about it. And then Derek, of course collects stories on it being noticed back there. So he, he kind of got me into the toy collecting too.

00:07:42:15 - 00:07:57:03
Speaker 4
So yeah, if I didn't start when I was very young, watching these shows and collecting all these awesome toys, I don't know if I would be the man I am today, but if it's good or bad.

00:07:57:18 - 00:07:58:01
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00:07:59:07 - 00:08:10:24
Speaker 1
Well, and I got to say, I remember those toys there talking about what the different Batman armor and suits and everything. And I remember thinking, Oh, I must just not watch the episode where they have this and that. Right. Cool to see.

00:08:11:03 - 00:08:16:04
Speaker 2
Yeah. Yeah. You're like, waiting for. Yeah.

00:08:16:04 - 00:08:34:08
Speaker 1
So. Well, thank you both for sharing your comic origin story. So let's go ahead and dive right into the theme of this episode. What's his battle of the holidays, where we take a few holiday related topics and discuss them? And some of these are a little controversial as well. And before we get started, I want to share a couple of things.

00:08:34:08 - 00:08:54:16
Speaker 1
At one, some of these questions are coming from a BuzzFeed article called Let's Fight about Christmas, which I'll link in the show notes. And the second thing is, I did send out a survey asking people their thoughts about some of these same questions as well. The problem is I've been so busy that I completely forgot to send it out 45 minutes earlier, so right now we only.

00:08:54:16 - 00:08:55:03
Speaker 2
Have two.

00:08:55:03 - 00:09:13:23
Speaker 1
People that responded, but I want to give them a shout out for doing this at the last minute. And that is Darth Egan's words. It's Darth underscore e Ionesco. You can find him on Tik Tok. And the other person who responded is I think, Matt from Hops Geek News and you can find him on Twitter as well. Cheers.

00:09:13:23 - 00:09:25:16
Speaker 1
So thank you both for submitting the survey. Let's jump in to the first question, and I'm going to ask you this first. What is your favorite holiday memory growing up?

00:09:25:21 - 00:09:31:06
Speaker 4
Back when I didn't hate Christmas and I was just a small child, I hate.

00:09:31:07 - 00:09:38:00
Speaker 2
That. So this is set up right now. So you do a Christmas? Yeah. Yeah. I don't know if you knew that.

00:09:38:00 - 00:09:41:02
Speaker 4
But I actually loathe, despise Christmas.

00:09:41:02 - 00:09:42:04
Speaker 1
Oh, my God. Is I.

00:09:42:04 - 00:09:42:21
Speaker 2
Positive?

00:09:43:07 - 00:09:44:11
Speaker 4
It's terrible that did.

00:09:44:11 - 00:09:46:21
Speaker 1
You a little.

00:09:46:21 - 00:09:48:24
Speaker 2
That's why I didn't tell you.

00:09:49:04 - 00:10:00:00
Speaker 4
This is where I get to speak my peace. Let me tell you why I don't like Christmas. I go on a 20 minute rant. No, I didn't know if you knew that. And I actually. I hate this holiday.

00:10:00:21 - 00:10:01:11
Speaker 1
Oh, my God.

00:10:01:11 - 00:10:01:21
Speaker 2
However.

00:10:02:13 - 00:10:23:10
Speaker 4
I do like I do. It's weird because, like, I like some movies, but I think it's because, like, I grew up watching these movies that we're going to get into here in a little bit, I believe. But favorite favorite holiday memory for me was, again, it's a Batman animated series. Related one I got the Batman, the animated series Batmobile, which is one of my favorite Batmobile mobiles.

00:10:23:10 - 00:10:41:07
Speaker 4
I got that toy for Christmas. Awesome. And it was it was heartbreaking because I got it and it was it was defective. It was broke. So we had to, like, return it. Yeah. I was just heartbroken. And my dad, my mom and dad were like, We're getting you another one. It's okay. And I'm like, I mean, now, I don't know if you guys remember the one.

00:10:41:07 - 00:10:54:18
Speaker 4
Like, you can actually open the top and put somebody in it and then the back like, pops out. Oh, is that fly off the top off of it? So that's one of my favorite movies, I think, because I love that thing. And I've played with it all the time.

00:10:55:22 - 00:10:58:08
Speaker 1
And I remember that. Yeah, Yeah, it was.

00:10:58:08 - 00:10:58:24
Speaker 4
It was great.

00:10:59:10 - 00:11:16:20
Speaker 1
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Well, everything about the anime series is just like, so cool because you can never tell is like supposed to take place in the past or the future, but it just, it was just the design was so it's like in that Batmobile is so iconic. But now that you brought that up, I remember having that same one too, and I completely forgot about that.

00:11:17:17 - 00:11:25:00
Speaker 4
Which I've looked into it recently, like on eBay and stuff. And I mean, you could still get one in the box, but you're talking four or $500 bare minimum.

00:11:25:00 - 00:11:27:00
Speaker 1
Oh, easily. Yeah, I'm sure. No kidding.

00:11:27:06 - 00:11:27:21
Speaker 4
It worth it.

00:11:28:08 - 00:11:33:20
Speaker 1
Yeah, I know. Whoever you know still has those. It's on those now. They're smart to do that like I would.

00:11:33:21 - 00:11:35:09
Speaker 2
Yeah, we would have thought.

00:11:35:09 - 00:11:43:23
Speaker 4
Of that, right? That's what I'm saying. But I would have never had the self-control to be like, I'm just going to leave this box for 30.

00:11:43:23 - 00:11:51:09
Speaker 2
Yeah. Yeah. There you go. All thought it was crazy when I bought.

00:11:51:09 - 00:11:52:05
Speaker 4
It for 15.

00:11:52:05 - 00:11:54:20
Speaker 2
Dollars.

00:11:54:20 - 00:11:55:14
Speaker 1
How about you, Derek?

00:11:56:19 - 00:12:22:01
Speaker 3
I have two. And I waffled back and forth, and I'll leave the one that ends up a sad story for another time. Okay, so we'll do the. We'll do the happy one. It was a happy story, but it just the circumstances surrounding it afterwards, after the the rerelease of Star Wars, especially editions, came out that I love Star Wars since I was a little kid.

00:12:22:01 - 00:12:38:04
Speaker 3
But that was when I actually, like I got to go to the theater and watch Star Wars for the first time because we were in that weird period where there was no prequels yet. And so I went and saw all the Star Wars movies and theater in the theaters. Those that two years that those came out or one year, whatever it was.

00:12:38:12 - 00:13:01:11
Speaker 3
And that Christmas, my, my grandparents were really, really pretty well-off and I got really lucky that if there was a toy line related to a movie that was coming out like around a holiday or my birthday, they would get a lot of it. And, and give it to me. So I got in in one Christmas that that all those came out.

00:13:01:20 - 00:13:49:19
Speaker 3
I got the full sized Millennium Falcon. I got an X-Wing. Yeah, I got Luke Leia Vader, the Emperor Yoda Han, the Stormtrooper Luke and on a micro machines Millennium Falcon, which was amazing. If you've never seen it, do yourself a favor favor and Google the the the nineties like power the force era Millennium Falcon micro machines it was so cool became a little my knocks and the all the little things would open up and it was just really really cool but yeah so that one Christmas I got almost an entire collection of star Wars toys that I then threw away when I was 18 years old because I'm an idiot.

00:13:50:19 - 00:13:52:16
Speaker 2
But that was a good idea because.

00:13:53:05 - 00:13:53:12
Speaker 4
That's.

00:13:53:12 - 00:14:07:03
Speaker 3
Not the sad story, although it is related to the other one. But yeah, so that was my that was the one that always stands out to me because as a huge Star Wars nerd, all of a sudden I had everything I could ever want to play with. Just just add my finger. It was amazing.

00:14:07:11 - 00:14:36:00
Speaker 1
Yeah, Well, and I think it's, you know, talking about you getting rid of your toys when you're 18. I think when we were growing up, we didn't really know a lot of adults that still had those classic toys or even, you know, it was it was even a thing for people to do in terms of like collecting. Like, I know people collected them, but they were more like hardcore collectors or people who were investing, you know, to sell them off or like museums or you know, major collectors have money and things like that.

00:14:36:00 - 00:15:08:11
Speaker 1
And now it's become a little bit more acceptable for people to to collect those toys and have them and, you know, people don't really look at them as as weird people for having those things as such a, you know, older age and everything. And so I think when you look around when we were growing up, we just didn't have that sort of experience or that kind of what's the word I'm looking for that social norm that you know, having toys beyond a certain age was fine because it was kind of seen differently or anything like that.

00:15:08:11 - 00:15:16:04
Speaker 1
It was just more of, you know, if you were still this age, you still had toys. You know, people will start, you know, making fun of you or, you know, start looking at you weird and all that.

00:15:16:04 - 00:15:41:17
Speaker 3
So, yeah, right. And I will say that even though I got rid of all those in a in a, it was the biggest mistake that I'd made. Like for years. I beat myself up about that. Immediately after I got rid of them, I felt awful. And I made a video about this, I think last May the fourth on on Tik-tok that my wife's grandfather, who's passed away since about a year before he passed away, said, Hey, go down to the barn and go up in the loft.

00:15:41:17 - 00:16:03:24
Speaker 3
There's a couple of tubs up there I want you to bring down. And so I went up and there were three tubs full of that power. The force do line of Star Wars toys, and we filled in the package still and refilled almost my entire collection, plus things that I never had no kid. So a man that arguably didn't like me ever because he was not an my biggest fan.

00:16:05:04 - 00:16:20:12
Speaker 3
I actually did like one of the nicest things that anyone's ever done for me. So it was it was pretty great. And he, he, he collected those when they came out. He would go he traveled from town. He was a marine. He was a fire marshal. And so whenever he was traveling, he would buy things that were on sale.

00:16:20:22 - 00:16:34:08
Speaker 3
And if it was something that was big. And so he happened to have this giant collection not knowing at all that, I mean, we're talking he did that when those were coming out. So good. Gosh, ten years before my wife and I even started dating.

00:16:34:24 - 00:16:35:13
Speaker 1
Oh, yeah.

00:16:35:22 - 00:16:39:16
Speaker 3
And so it was a wild, incredible twist of fate.

00:16:40:05 - 00:16:44:11
Speaker 1
Oh, that's cool. That's a great story. Well, I know things.

00:16:44:17 - 00:16:45:03
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00:16:46:19 - 00:17:06:06
Speaker 1
I know. For me, this is kind of a double ender. Terms of my favorite moments or holiday memories growing up is one is my family and I would always get alive. Christmas tree to put in our house. I don't know if you all growing up are still now get a life tree or Nadia.

00:17:06:18 - 00:17:20:14
Speaker 3
We always did growing up I don't now because it's just the hassle of all the kids and everything It's just a lot simpler. I don't have a lot of time during the holidays, so we unfortunately do the fake tree and I'm sure Ian takes time to decorate a tree during Christmas, don't you?

00:17:20:22 - 00:17:53:10
Speaker 4
Not even in the slightest. When I was a kid growing up, the first like 11, 12 years of my life, we lived on a 350 acre farm house. So we would like, go out and cut down a tree usually. Yeah. And if we couldn't, they always made sure like we had a live tree. And then after that it was usually a, a fake tree for, for, for, for the rest of my life that I actually celebrated Christmas, which I haven't really.

00:17:54:12 - 00:17:56:15
Speaker 2
I've lived alone.

00:17:56:15 - 00:18:14:02
Speaker 4
For the past six, seven years now. And I don't think I've ever had a tree in that six, seven years that I can remember when I was when I was married. She always put the tree up and I would help, but I was just like, Why were you only doing this?

00:18:14:10 - 00:18:14:20
Speaker 2
Right?

00:18:15:06 - 00:18:19:11
Speaker 4
Gotcha. This is this is a lot of work to take down.

00:18:19:11 - 00:18:19:21
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00:18:19:21 - 00:18:38:20
Speaker 1
Yeah. I mean, that was that was kind of a hassle, especially when it's, you know, almost a month and then you have to take it out and all that. I think that's why people are celebrating it, you know, earlier than Thanksgiving is. So they kind of justify being able to have it up long or not have to, you know, take it down so quickly and everything so, yeah.

00:18:38:21 - 00:18:56:14
Speaker 4
And I think if I had kids, it'd be different. I think if I had kids, I would definitely do it for my kids if that's what they wanted to do. Right. Because even though, like, I don't fully believe in what Christmas is about and how we go about celebrating it, I still wouldn't want personally, it just isn't a knock on anybody that does this.

00:18:56:14 - 00:19:12:09
Speaker 4
But me personally, I wouldn't want to deprive my kids of that when they go to other people's houses and friend's houses or even like at school or whatever and see all this and think like, Whoa, that's all cool. Why can't I do that? Just because their dad is a Scrooge, right?

00:19:12:15 - 00:19:12:21
Speaker 2
Well.

00:19:13:04 - 00:19:17:04
Speaker 1
I mean, honestly, the fact that you're willing to do that, though, tells me you're not a Scrooge. You know.

00:19:17:05 - 00:19:22:14
Speaker 2
Like, now I'm not that. So.

00:19:22:22 - 00:19:29:07
Speaker 4
Yeah, No, I. I would definitely look at it from a different perspective if I was in an alternate situation. Right.

00:19:29:10 - 00:19:30:08
Speaker 2
Right. Yeah.

00:19:30:11 - 00:19:52:15
Speaker 1
So I me growing up, I always got a live tree and we did that all the way through when my wife and I got married. And then we, we did the I think we did a live tree for a while then and now, just like you did. We got an artificial tree that we put up, which I absolutely, as much as I love trees, I prefer that just for a number of reasons.

00:19:52:15 - 00:20:07:24
Speaker 1
The biggest reason is that it's cheaper that way. Like, you know, getting a Christmas tree can easily be at minimum $50. And so if you get a artificial tree, you pretty much got your money's worth after, you know, two or three years, depending on what kind you get the but by absolutely love.

00:20:08:00 - 00:20:09:05
Speaker 4
Things get expensive.

00:20:09:05 - 00:20:26:09
Speaker 1
They do yeah yeah. Especially you know depending on what kind of get and everything but but that was one of my favorite things growing up for Christmas is going out and getting the tree at a tree farm and then putting up the tree and decorating it. And then the other thing I always enjoyed, you know, I always remember Christmas Eve.

00:20:26:09 - 00:20:53:18
Speaker 1
I would go to my grandparents house with all my cousins Christmas Eve evening after we went to Mass with my mom's side of the family. And then on Christmas Day, we went with my dad's side of the family. So. So those are my favorite memories. Growing up, I was going to share with our people who submitted their responses, had said, But as I mentioned before, my trackpad is now in the middle of dying on me and is not.

00:20:53:19 - 00:20:54:22
Speaker 2
Moving, so.

00:20:54:22 - 00:21:03:06
Speaker 1
I can't even see what they had shared. So once the trackpad starts working again, I will open it up and kind of disrupt the whole.

00:21:03:06 - 00:21:05:04
Speaker 2
Episode as it will quick.

00:21:06:00 - 00:21:23:05
Speaker 1
But in the meantime, we'll have to go to our next question, which I got to look up on my phone now because again, my my trackpad is not working. So I got to figure out, oh, okay. So the next question is and we got to talked about this a little bit. So if you're just like going into this, you know, it's different than the other one.

00:21:23:05 - 00:21:28:20
Speaker 1
Let me now. But your favorite holiday present when you were a kid, I mean, is it? Pretty much is.

00:21:28:21 - 00:21:30:16
Speaker 2
But what I would.

00:21:30:16 - 00:21:51:09
Speaker 4
Say for me would probably be the same. I mean, I don't. But that's the thing. Like, I had so many cool toys in my mind growing up that I don't remember if they were Christmas presents or not, if they were just birthday or just because I was an awesome child. The last part was sarcasm. For those of you that couldn't pick up on them.

00:21:52:06 - 00:21:53:04
Speaker 2
I had this again.

00:21:53:04 - 00:22:14:01
Speaker 4
I can't remember when I got it, but I had this really my other favorite toy was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated Series. They had the techno drone on there. I had a real life like a big techno drone that like opened up and you can put stuff in. And I still got it from my brother. I don't remember who it belonged to.

00:22:14:07 - 00:22:34:22
Speaker 4
We were three years apart, so whatever I had, he took and whatever he had, I wasn't allowed to play with. But it would be like one of those situations that that back then you knew who owned what and who had what they like now. Like I have somehow I've got a box in the other room full of old toys.

00:22:34:22 - 00:22:49:21
Speaker 4
And again, it's not even half of what we had. But now I'll like take him out, be like I only remember if this was minor his at this point. But yeah, I had a lot of biological toys so I don't I don't remember. But it did get that Christmas. That would be my my runner up to my Batmobile.

00:22:50:08 - 00:22:55:02
Speaker 1
When I can. I don't have the techno drum, but I had the Ninja Turtle van.

00:22:55:12 - 00:22:57:20
Speaker 3
I had the van too. That was awesome. Yeah.

00:22:57:20 - 00:23:00:19
Speaker 1
That would kick out to the side. You had a little action figure that would do that.

00:23:01:02 - 00:23:03:15
Speaker 3
So it shot the pizzas, right? Like the decent pizza?

00:23:03:21 - 00:23:06:01
Speaker 1
Yes. Yeah. From the front and everything.

00:23:06:02 - 00:23:08:01
Speaker 2
Oh, yes. Yeah, I love that thing.

00:23:09:17 - 00:23:26:10
Speaker 3
I don't think that was a Christmas present for me, but I did have that. I don't remember when I got it. I had so many ninja turtle toys. It was hard to hard, hard to remember when I got them all. But I will say that I'll throw in another Christmas present. And it was actually a stocking stuffer, which I can't remember if is on the list of stocking stuffers.

00:23:27:24 - 00:23:46:17
Speaker 3
But every year when I was a kid, we used to get this little book and it wasn't an actual but a little cardboard book, and it was just full of ten rolls of lifesavers, like old school lifesavers that were still the hard candy that came in the little roll and chubby little me. Look forward to that every single year.

00:23:46:17 - 00:23:55:00
Speaker 3
I knew it would be in my stocking. I always got excited about it and I ate through at least three or four of those rolls of of lifesavers before we even got to dinner.

00:23:55:18 - 00:24:00:24
Speaker 4
That's great. I just think it's funny that all year long your parents didn't get you Lifesavers.

00:24:01:23 - 00:24:07:14
Speaker 3
It was it wasn't that I couldn't have lifesavers all year long. It was that it came in a little like literally it was a box.

00:24:07:14 - 00:24:09:06
Speaker 2
It's a it's like a look, look.

00:24:09:15 - 00:24:10:15
Speaker 3
Look, look, look.

00:24:10:23 - 00:24:12:21
Speaker 4
I know what you're talking about. I used to get those.

00:24:12:21 - 00:24:16:05
Speaker 3
Oh, I love it. And there were different kinds and different flavor, like, Oh, they were.

00:24:16:24 - 00:24:20:02
Speaker 4
Stuck to it, right? Yeah, The rules were actually stuck doing that.

00:24:20:04 - 00:24:22:08
Speaker 2
Yeah. Oh, yeah. It.

00:24:22:08 - 00:24:28:04
Speaker 3
It was my favorite. Look, I'm. I'm. I'm a large man. I'm a big guy, and I like candy, so I look.

00:24:29:13 - 00:24:30:06
Speaker 4
In on you for liking.

00:24:30:14 - 00:24:31:03
Speaker 1
Na na.

00:24:31:03 - 00:24:31:11
Speaker 2
Na.

00:24:32:09 - 00:24:53:13
Speaker 1
Well, it's. I mean, especially holidays. Like, you go out and do that, you know, like everybody loves was the food and I can't. I'm a sucker for anything that's holiday related. My wife would joke around and say that if anybody just made anything that they usually make, you know, and just slapped the word Christmas on it, I would buy it and eat it because it just the fact that it said Christmas on it.

00:24:54:06 - 00:24:55:09
Speaker 1
So I totally get that.

00:24:55:20 - 00:24:58:05
Speaker 4
Well, Derek, was it just a live sorry on I mean.

00:24:58:22 - 00:24:59:00
Speaker 2
No.

00:24:59:08 - 00:24:59:22
Speaker 1
Go ahead. That's fine.

00:24:59:22 - 00:25:09:09
Speaker 4
Yeah, it was it was a just a lifesaver. It's it Did you get the like the assorted candy canes too, that were different. Like they were like holiday flavors. I say regular, but they'd be like strawberry jam, right?

00:25:09:15 - 00:25:18:12
Speaker 3
We would get the assorted candy canes. But I didn't care about them. I was. I was all about the lifesavers. Yeah, I was like. I was like a little gremlin over in the corner of the living room, sitting by the fireplace.

00:25:18:13 - 00:25:19:21
Speaker 4
Which would you take, Joy? And it was.

00:25:20:19 - 00:25:21:07
Speaker 2
No.

00:25:21:08 - 00:25:29:20
Speaker 3
Oh, my gosh. My older sister, even though she is almost a foot shorter than me, would have broken my fingers if I.

00:25:30:00 - 00:25:30:15
Speaker 4
Had gone.

00:25:30:15 - 00:25:38:14
Speaker 3
Last year. We didn't play around with. She'd be sitting right next to me and we would be like a woodchipper or just double fisting, like sleeves of lifesavers.

00:25:38:14 - 00:25:40:10
Speaker 4
Just just need one more hit.

00:25:40:20 - 00:25:44:07
Speaker 2
Just one more. Just give me another sleeve.

00:25:44:10 - 00:25:47:04
Speaker 3
Just it just in a like a sugar coma.

00:25:47:04 - 00:25:48:09
Speaker 2
But they were good.

00:25:48:19 - 00:26:12:07
Speaker 4
They were good lifesavers. I had this conversation all the time with people about like, not just like candy from my childhood all the time. And I started to see like, Lifesaver, like the Creme Savers come back recently. Oh, yeah. Oh, my God. I can eat a whole bag of that one sitting. That's not an accomplishment. But and I'm not sure not to brag, but I just think about that all the time like that.

00:26:12:11 - 00:26:20:07
Speaker 4
They had like there was a picture on Facebook that you guys remember the Santa Claus suckers. They were red and the face was painted about.

00:26:20:11 - 00:26:21:05
Speaker 2
Yeah, yeah.

00:26:21:13 - 00:26:37:08
Speaker 4
And it's funny because, like, the way the human brain works, in his mind, it's not up to par, in my opinion. Been gibberish should be is you forget about all that and you see, like, picture like, Oh wait, I forgot all about that. I forgot I used to eat those by the puzzle, right?

00:26:37:11 - 00:26:39:20
Speaker 2
Oh yeah.

00:26:39:20 - 00:27:00:15
Speaker 1
For me, growing up, there is one year where I got, you know, just this great president. I always got great presents from my parents. But there is one that I really enjoyed, and that was when I went through this era of like, I was just so obsessed with the movies. Home Alone, a home loan to. So I got the talk, Boy.

00:27:00:17 - 00:27:04:06
Speaker 2
I was going to say, Please get the dog, but that was the.

00:27:04:06 - 00:27:04:19
Speaker 3
Coolest thing.

00:27:04:19 - 00:27:16:17
Speaker 1
Ever. I know it. What's interesting, though, is that the one I got was exactly the same one that they used in the movie because you know how Kevin McCallister used it to slow down his voice to make it sound like he's adult. Mine didn't have that.

00:27:17:04 - 00:27:20:17
Speaker 3
Really. I had one that did have that. It didn't sound nearly as good as the movie there.

00:27:21:04 - 00:27:39:00
Speaker 1
There must have been like different versions that they had or something because mine did not have, though. It was just, you know, I think off on recording mode, basically. And then I remember asking my dad was like, I can't figure out like how to disarm it because there's not a setting on everything. And then my dad, who, you know, when you're a kid like your parents always know everything and all that.

00:27:39:00 - 00:27:59:22
Speaker 1
And my dad like, to his credit, he does know a lot about a lot of stuff, especially when it comes to technology. At least at that time. I'm helping him with all his technology stuff now. But technology, cars, you know, anything, you know, mechanical, all that. Like he knows pretty much everything about it. But at the time, like, I don't think he knew, but he was like, I'm going to try to figure this out.

00:27:59:22 - 00:28:05:16
Speaker 1
So his solution was when you hit record, like press down on the tape really hard on the outside.

00:28:05:16 - 00:28:19:08
Speaker 2
So that way slows down the spinning of it. So I tried that and never see the system hack the credit card. Your but I use.

00:28:19:08 - 00:28:30:24
Speaker 1
That thing for like three or four years this record stuff, you know, it was just so much fun. And then the other president I got that same year was I got the home Alone book bag. Did you two ever remember that?

00:28:31:15 - 00:28:33:04
Speaker 3
No, I don't know. The home loan book bag.

00:28:33:06 - 00:28:40:10
Speaker 1
So it's the same one that he use in home loan, too, that has like that tan look that has like a little flap there with the straps and everything, like.

00:28:40:11 - 00:28:41:00
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00:28:41:01 - 00:28:42:00
Speaker 4
Okay. I know you're talking.

00:28:42:00 - 00:29:04:05
Speaker 1
Yeah. So it's that same bag but has like, come on, two on it. And the really cool thing about this was that if you turn on the system that's inside, like if someone opens it with that thing on it, like lets out a loud Kevin McCallister scream as its alarm system basically. So it was a lot of fun just to play around with that and just like unbuckle that ear scream.

00:29:04:09 - 00:29:07:08
Speaker 1
So like no one ever took my stuff. I'm just like, unbuckle and put it back in and.

00:29:08:08 - 00:29:09:07
Speaker 2
I've never I never.

00:29:09:07 - 00:29:13:20
Speaker 4
Knew that was a thing I never did. That was an actual product that was sold.

00:29:14:02 - 00:29:17:12
Speaker 1
I was the only person I knew that had.

00:29:17:12 - 00:29:18:09
Speaker 2
So my.

00:29:18:09 - 00:29:20:20
Speaker 1
Guess is there's only a handful people that actually bought.

00:29:20:20 - 00:29:23:10
Speaker 2
That. So.

00:29:24:03 - 00:29:46:18
Speaker 1
Well, real quick, let's I'm going to attempt on my phone to get the answers there. Dorothy Perkins in Hopscotch news submitted. So let's go back to the first question about the favorite holiday memory going up. Dorothy Perkins said Seeing Santa and he said his favorite holiday present growing up was getting his Nintendo entertainment system, which.

00:29:46:19 - 00:29:47:12
Speaker 3
On any.

00:29:47:16 - 00:29:48:04
Speaker 2
Solid.

00:29:48:18 - 00:30:03:16
Speaker 1
So I think no one can argue with that. Right And then hopscotch news said their favorite memory going up was the family get together at their house every year and his favorite holiday present growing up was PlayStation two.

00:30:05:09 - 00:30:05:22
Speaker 3
Nice.

00:30:06:06 - 00:30:08:16
Speaker 2
I mean, another solid. Another one it.

00:30:08:16 - 00:30:25:19
Speaker 1
Is. Yeah. Well, that's the thing is like, you know, gaming systems don't cost as much as they do now. But, you know, they they were expensive back then. They were very how they are now. And so that was probably the big gift of the year that kid could get. And so everybody remembers that when they got that for their Christmas present and.

00:30:25:20 - 00:30:27:17
Speaker 3
They also really hard to come across to.

00:30:28:01 - 00:30:30:21
Speaker 4
Yeah, yeah. To the one the PlayStation.

00:30:30:21 - 00:30:31:24
Speaker 3
It's really hard to come.

00:30:32:01 - 00:30:36:15
Speaker 4
I now imagine I do remember getting a one for Christmas.

00:30:36:21 - 00:30:37:16
Speaker 2
Mm hmm.

00:30:37:17 - 00:30:38:00
Speaker 4
Yeah.

00:30:38:08 - 00:30:56:19
Speaker 3
We got a Sega Genesis for Christmas. My sister and I did. But with, with the scarcity of video game consoles back in the in the nineties and early 2000s, you just had to know a guy that was that was my I'll never forget I remember my dad picking me up and this is a sidetrack. I apologize, but I'm already here now.

00:30:56:19 - 00:31:09:17
Speaker 3
So here we go. I remember my dad like getting me and throw me in the in his truck and I was four, maybe five years old. I think I was five. And I was like, where are we going? This don't worry about it. And so we went on like some country.

00:31:09:17 - 00:31:11:01
Speaker 4
And I was like, You're been getting out of there.

00:31:11:04 - 00:31:13:24
Speaker 2
Someone said, Sure, this was your brother found.

00:31:14:04 - 00:31:25:24
Speaker 3
He found somebody that had an engine. Yes. For sale. And so we bought it from some dude like in a shack out in the middle of nowhere. And then one day he came home from work with a PlayStation two and they came out. I was like, Where did you get this? He said, I bought it out of a guy's trunk.

00:31:26:01 - 00:31:29:00
Speaker 3
I was like, This is stolen. What are you doing, man?

00:31:29:13 - 00:31:31:23
Speaker 4
I had to go down by the railroad tracks.

00:31:32:08 - 00:31:34:06
Speaker 2
Go to a back alley there was a.

00:31:34:06 - 00:31:36:10
Speaker 4
Man standing over a barrel of fire.

00:31:36:11 - 00:31:41:22
Speaker 3
I was like, Where did you get this? He said, Oh, a guy, the guy at work. He had it in his trunk. Did he have a lot of them? Yeah, he had.

00:31:41:22 - 00:31:42:08
Speaker 2
A couple.

00:31:44:19 - 00:31:45:24
Speaker 3
Bodies in store.

00:31:46:08 - 00:31:47:24
Speaker 2
Yeah, we.

00:31:48:09 - 00:32:05:06
Speaker 1
Yeah, we had, you know, Nintendo, Super Nintendo and PlayStation. I don't I don't know if we ever got it as a Christmas present that I feel like I would remember that. But maybe my one of my brothers got it. It would just end up being a family thing or something like that. Yeah, but, but yeah, I mean those are always, you know, a huge presence.

00:32:05:06 - 00:32:13:02
Speaker 1
So moving on. Favorite holiday movies. Derek, I'll kick it off to you. What's your favorite holiday movie?

00:32:13:02 - 00:32:33:17
Speaker 3
Number one is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. I have already watched that movie four times this month and I will probably watch it at least one more time. Runner up Fred Claus, surprisingly enough. And and maybe Elf because Elephant, Fred Claus both make me sob and weep uncontrollably because I'm a big crier and they're very sentimental at the end.

00:32:34:00 - 00:32:42:24
Speaker 3
But Christmas vacations are classic. Ian and I have been quoting that movie for the last 20 years. Mike just just doesn't have to be Christmas Day.

00:32:42:24 - 00:32:45:13
Speaker 2
Not even Christmas time. Yeah, just random time served your.

00:32:46:10 - 00:32:46:21
Speaker 3
Surprise.

00:32:46:21 - 00:32:48:10
Speaker 1
Clerk gift that keeps on giving.

00:32:50:03 - 00:32:50:13
Speaker 2
You.

00:32:50:13 - 00:32:53:22
Speaker 4
I woke up in the morning with my head stable to the carpet. I couldn't be more surprised than I.

00:32:53:22 - 00:32:54:10
Speaker 2
Am right now.

00:32:56:00 - 00:33:19:15
Speaker 3
The I love Christmas vacation. I think that it is. And I won't say underrated because people like it a lot, but I did a I did a video for why I think it's the best and people people forget that it's got a lot of heart to it like it's got a lot of laugh out loud moments, but it's a it's a really good story and a story of a man just trying his best to give his family the Christmas that he thinks they deserve.

00:33:19:15 - 00:33:19:22
Speaker 2
Right.

00:33:19:23 - 00:33:21:12
Speaker 3
And I love it. I love that movie.

00:33:22:01 - 00:33:26:10
Speaker 1
I'll I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of Christmas vacation.

00:33:27:02 - 00:33:31:05
Speaker 2
All right. Well, not not that I hate it.

00:33:31:05 - 00:34:02:10
Speaker 1
By any means. It just if I were through a Christmas not watching it, I would be okay with it. You know, we watched it last night because every year our friends would get together and do like an all day Christmas movie marathon. And that's always one that everybody watches. I remember, you know, I think that was probably the one movie where I was probably on my phone a lot just because it just didn't hold interest for me in, I don't know, part of it's just like I've never really been a huge fan of Chevy Chase or there's just a lot of just, I guess, weird moments for me or whatever.

00:34:02:10 - 00:34:02:19
Speaker 2
That.

00:34:03:22 - 00:34:21:15
Speaker 1
I'm not sure. But it just, it, it like I said, I don't hate it. Like, there's definitely like we said, some really good sentimental parts. There's actually some really good cinematography and in really interesting ways that they that they film this stuff like that. It's just not been one the ones I've been interested. And the other one you mentioned, Fred Claus.

00:34:21:15 - 00:34:26:22
Speaker 1
I remember I tried watching it once. I fell asleep. You're muted. Just say you now.

00:34:27:17 - 00:34:41:10
Speaker 3
Sorry. I needed myself to cough and I thought I needed myself. It's good. I would recommend trying it out again. It was one that I didn't expect to be any good, but I'm a big Vince Vaughn fan and it's a little weird watching it now because Kevin Spacey is kind of the villain in it, kind of like he is in real life.

00:34:41:10 - 00:34:42:21
Speaker 2
So it's a.

00:34:43:09 - 00:34:47:08
Speaker 3
Little off, but I would recommend it If anybody hasn't seen it, I'll give it a shot.

00:34:47:17 - 00:34:49:09
Speaker 1
Nick Ian, what about you?

00:34:50:15 - 00:35:10:02
Speaker 4
Christmas vacations in my and my top. Another few, which is weird for a man and I hate Christmas, but I grew up watching that jingle all the way is actually my job. Obviously I watched Home Alone one and two. I wish they would have made more after that, but they didn't. They stopped.

00:35:10:02 - 00:35:10:23
Speaker 2
That one and.

00:35:14:00 - 00:35:17:17
Speaker 4
And that is a little known fact. Actually, it was a common misconception. There's like.

00:35:20:12 - 00:35:20:24
Speaker 2
The middle.

00:35:21:08 - 00:35:22:02
Speaker 1
It right Like.

00:35:22:02 - 00:35:27:02
Speaker 2
Right right. Yeah. That's crazy.

00:35:27:02 - 00:35:43:06
Speaker 4
Do not Google to see if this is so Yeah jingle all the way is up there. I actually have one that I've been watching the past like four or five years now and it's actually it's a horror comedy Christmas movie and it's called Better Watch Out.

00:35:43:19 - 00:35:47:22
Speaker 1
Oh, nice. I am not a fan of holiday horror movie, so I.

00:35:47:22 - 00:35:50:22
Speaker 4
Was not a fan at all. Like Krampus. Nothing like that or nothing.

00:35:50:22 - 00:36:04:15
Speaker 1
And the only exception which and I'm sure we'll talk about this now since I bring it up is and it's not horror and I think you actually said this in your show. I listen to you guys podcast about this movie, Violent Night. Yeah, it's a it's an action holiday movie.

00:36:04:16 - 00:36:05:13
Speaker 4
Right. You know, some.

00:36:05:13 - 00:36:24:24
Speaker 1
People describe this kind of horror. I didn't think it was horror it at all, but it's definitely like a gory you know, it's a die hard movie. But Santa Claus is the star instead of Bruce Willis, you know? And so, yeah, so I would say like if someone classifies as that, like I'm okay with that. But generally speaking, I am not a fan of Christmas horror movies now.

00:36:25:19 - 00:36:50:06
Speaker 4
So I don't mind them. I think they're decent. This, this one was just like there was there was a lot going on there. Just it's it's up there for me. But yeah my top two Christmas vacation jingle all the way I this is another thing that you may not know what review lists are so you may you may have heard me say over and over Christmas story is an abomination to me.

00:36:50:08 - 00:37:07:19
Speaker 4
I do not like that movie at all. I hate it. Hated the fact that it was on every year. We would always every year we met at my grandmas, you know, growing up until I was a young adult. And every year she would have the Christmas movies on. And that movie always played. And like me, there's other movies around.

00:37:07:20 - 00:37:18:22
Speaker 4
We switch the channel and see I don't care how many times we watch Miracle on 34th Street. This like, let's let's watch it again. Yeah, I watch Christmas Story.

00:37:19:04 - 00:37:32:23
Speaker 1
So it's not my favorite movie, but it's my family's favorite movie. We watch it growing up and everything. Christmas Story. We went to the Christmas Story museum when it opened up in Cleveland. Our family is like, really into it.

00:37:34:08 - 00:37:35:12
Speaker 2
Damn. Yeah.

00:37:36:20 - 00:37:39:14
Speaker 4
I'm so sorry to hit on your family again.

00:37:39:14 - 00:37:41:08
Speaker 2
This is why it's called holidays.

00:37:42:08 - 00:37:57:10
Speaker 3
It was. It was my dad's favorite. We watched it every single year. I still love Christmas Story, but we did watch it. We were the ones that had it on. We would go to my grandma's house as well, and she had a TV in the living room, a TV in the kitchen and a TV in the family room.

00:37:57:10 - 00:38:01:17
Speaker 3
And also, I think a TV like in the back of the house somewhere and all four of them were playing.

00:38:01:17 - 00:38:07:06
Speaker 4
Or did she have one of them like that little like off standing room area over there where, you know, it was dip down?

00:38:07:08 - 00:38:10:19
Speaker 3
No, it was the TV in the kitchen was on a little swivel and so it would.

00:38:11:00 - 00:38:12:06
Speaker 2
Wire a mirror. Yeah.

00:38:12:17 - 00:38:13:05
Speaker 4
Oh, okay.

00:38:13:11 - 00:38:31:06
Speaker 3
So you could turn it whichever way you want to do. But either way, they were never they were always on the same channel, but there was always a little bit of a different delay. So you would hear from one room to the other the same line. B repeat, repeated like three times. It was. Yeah. So yeah, I don't watch it as often now because of that, but I still enjoy it.

00:38:31:14 - 00:38:32:04
Speaker 2
Yeah. Yeah.

00:38:32:04 - 00:38:52:06
Speaker 1
And like I say, it's a family favorite. I, it's one of those things again, like if I don't watch it, I probably be okay with it just because I watch it so much growing up. But it was definitely a family staple growing up like we had it on the 24 hours TNT, Channel Christmas Eve all the way through Christmas Day and and my mom.

00:38:52:06 - 00:39:15:01
Speaker 1
That would be really great to go, you know, on Christmas Day and have dinner at a Chinese restaurant like they did in Christmas Story. And I think she was expecting it to be exactly like that. Smiling at me. Yeah. My favorite movies for the holidays. There's I must say there's two that's tied and there's one that's creeping up there right now.

00:39:15:01 - 00:39:18:22
Speaker 1
My two favorite are Elf and a Muppets Christmas Carol.

00:39:19:07 - 00:39:21:05
Speaker 3
Yeah, I do love them. But with Christmas Carol Yes.

00:39:21:05 - 00:39:37:17
Speaker 1
And Muppets Christmas Carol has a lot of nostalgia for me because I actually remember seeing that when I was a kid in theaters. And I went with my cousins who I, you know, did a lot of things with my cousins all the time because we were close in age and we lived pretty close to each other. And so I love going to movies with them.

00:39:37:17 - 00:39:57:10
Speaker 1
And I remember vividly that I saw that movie with them at the movie theater that we go to all the time. It was just end up being my favorite holiday movie ever. So those two are tied, but one that started to creep up there that there might be a three way tie is the new movie that came out on Apple TV called Spirited with Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell.

00:39:57:14 - 00:39:58:10
Speaker 4
I still haven't watched it.

00:39:58:11 - 00:40:00:18
Speaker 3
Yeah, neither one of us have Apple TV. We're going to have to do.

00:40:00:18 - 00:40:02:06
Speaker 2
The we're going to have to.

00:40:02:06 - 00:40:05:19
Speaker 3
Do the free trial and actually sit down and watch it because I've heard nothing but good things about.

00:40:05:19 - 00:40:06:16
Speaker 2
It. Yeah.

00:40:07:07 - 00:40:09:22
Speaker 4
You know, I'd never watch Polar Express now.

00:40:09:22 - 00:40:10:09
Speaker 2
That's okay.

00:40:10:18 - 00:40:11:08
Speaker 3
You're good.

00:40:11:14 - 00:40:13:00
Speaker 2
Really? Yeah. Yeah. I mean.

00:40:13:00 - 00:40:19:08
Speaker 4
You two are the only two people that have ever, like, given me a pass for that. Usually everybody's, like, greatest movie of all time.

00:40:19:11 - 00:40:24:09
Speaker 3
Got a great, great soundtrack. Music. Music. Beautiful. Yeah, that's. That's. That's all you need.

00:40:24:18 - 00:40:24:24
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00:40:25:11 - 00:40:26:08
Speaker 3
Josh Groban song.

00:40:26:08 - 00:40:27:17
Speaker 4
Why don't you go back now?

00:40:28:10 - 00:40:32:16
Speaker 1
That's the one where the book is definitely much better than the film. Yeah.

00:40:33:10 - 00:40:36:11
Speaker 3
It's just for you stepping. L That was a little weird at the end of the book.

00:40:36:19 - 00:40:37:19
Speaker 2
Yeah, a little bit.

00:40:37:20 - 00:40:43:03
Speaker 1
But I mean, even then, it's like the movie got, like it got drawn out a lot.

00:40:43:11 - 00:40:44:02
Speaker 4
Yeah.

00:40:44:02 - 00:41:01:17
Speaker 1
Just to kind of make it a film, you know? And I think it's just because of who got involved with it and everything like that. That's why it was the way it was. It was okay. It's just I don't think it was as great as everybody thinks it is. And I think part of it was just that hype because the book was so good that they thought the movie was good, you know?

00:41:01:17 - 00:41:04:22
Speaker 4
So they're they're good. You say Josh Groban did the soundtrack.

00:41:05:11 - 00:41:06:14
Speaker 2
He did the.

00:41:06:14 - 00:41:08:24
Speaker 3
The big like marquee song The Believer is.

00:41:08:24 - 00:41:14:10
Speaker 4
What I would tell you. My Christmas Josh Groban story. When I work at Walmart.

00:41:14:20 - 00:41:15:23
Speaker 1
I want to know now I.

00:41:15:23 - 00:41:20:04
Speaker 3
Don't I don't know that I've heard this story. So watch your mouth about Josh Groban.

00:41:20:04 - 00:41:22:19
Speaker 2
I'm a fan. Oh, no, no, no, no. I'm also a fan.

00:41:22:19 - 00:41:31:04
Speaker 4
And I don't know if you ever watched he was on a show on Netflix and only had one season. Tony Danza was his father. He was phenomenal. And he was great as Andy's brother. And that was.

00:41:31:04 - 00:41:35:20
Speaker 3
Great. And the So by Tuna, by pan.

00:41:36:18 - 00:42:07:01
Speaker 4
So I worked out in at Walmart in the Garden Center, and this was close to probably 15 years ago. And I was out there. And when you first like, walked in off to the right, we had this section set up and there was a CD player over there and they wanted Christmas music playing at all times. Okay. So there was a there's a Josh Groban CD and somebody put it in and I and I don't mind it, but it starts it was skipping really bad, skipping horribly.

00:42:07:05 - 00:42:29:03
Speaker 4
Right. And at first I thought, that's just how he sings. I don't remember him. Something like that. And I start listening to like, no, that was definitely skipping. So I go take it out, put a different CD in. Now I'm pretty sure that I'm one of the only people working out here at the time, and I go back out through the double doors, out to the outside patio section, do something, and I'd walk back in and no bullshit.

00:42:29:03 - 00:42:31:18
Speaker 4
I'd come back in and I'd hear Josh Groban over there.

00:42:31:22 - 00:42:36:08
Speaker 2
Oh, and I'm like, I took that out.

00:42:36:09 - 00:42:48:12
Speaker 4
Who came out here and put that back in? So I go over there because it started skipping again. I go all over, check it out. I look around, I'm like, Who is out here? And I look around the corner and I don't see anybody. I change CDs to go, This happens two more times.

00:42:48:21 - 00:42:49:22
Speaker 2
I walk out, come back in.

00:42:50:09 - 00:42:53:20
Speaker 4
But Josh Rubin back in and to this day, never knew who was.

00:42:54:02 - 00:42:59:22
Speaker 3
It was Josh Groban. It just goes to Walmarts around the world, Indiana at Christmas time. It's what.

00:42:59:22 - 00:43:00:11
Speaker 1
He does.

00:43:00:11 - 00:43:01:21
Speaker 3
Thank you. Thank you.

00:43:02:04 - 00:43:07:21
Speaker 2
Yeah. What you were thinking, other listeners.

00:43:07:22 - 00:43:14:10
Speaker 1
Well, as we were talking, we have somebody submitted a response to the survey, so I'm going to go back and kind of read their.

00:43:14:10 - 00:43:23:01
Speaker 4
Responses and to committed to doing that. To me, the so this is it finally the culprit behind the Josh Groban CD debacle.

00:43:23:09 - 00:43:25:21
Speaker 2
Yeah, yeah that was it.

00:43:25:21 - 00:43:35:04
Speaker 1
Um, so, uh, Dorothy Cohen said his favorite holiday movie is It's a Wonderful Life, which I know that's a lot. People's favorite one.

00:43:35:04 - 00:43:36:21
Speaker 2
It's. It's, um, mine.

00:43:37:05 - 00:43:38:01
Speaker 1
Yeah, it's. I mean.

00:43:38:20 - 00:43:40:01
Speaker 2
It's a classic what it was.

00:43:40:03 - 00:44:14:07
Speaker 1
Yeah. And then the. Yeah, and then Hopkins News said that their favorite is Jingle all the way and then nefarious podcast I'm sorry nefarious nightmare podcast submitted theirs and going back to what they said their favorite holiday memory going up is watching the Christmas lights on the tree. They didn't know what it was about old 1980s Christmas lights but they were magical, I think partly because the lights were a lot brighter than what we have now.

00:44:14:13 - 00:44:21:22
Speaker 1
Favorite holiday present going up was Rocking Horse when they were little. Nine Inch Nails Search posters in full discography when they were a teen.

00:44:22:10 - 00:44:25:17
Speaker 3
And that took a sharp turn for a rocking horse. The Nine.

00:44:25:17 - 00:44:28:05
Speaker 2
Inch Nails right.

00:44:30:13 - 00:44:34:06
Speaker 1
Then their favorite holiday movie was Home Alone and A Christmas Story.

00:44:34:08 - 00:44:37:02
Speaker 2
So, all right, next.

00:44:37:02 - 00:44:43:15
Speaker 1
Question is favorite holiday song, I think, Derek, you went first last time. So Ian you'll be up.

00:44:44:12 - 00:44:54:15
Speaker 4
Not huge in the Christmas music. However, I have a special place in my heart for Mariah Carey. So anything off the Mariah Carey Christmas album, the original one night I'm there for.

00:44:55:03 - 00:44:58:10
Speaker 1
So. So you got to be a fan of All I Want for Christmas Is You.

00:44:58:24 - 00:45:00:02
Speaker 2
Oh yeah, Yeah.

00:45:00:12 - 00:45:14:04
Speaker 4
It's funny because at work they'll play like all these songs. I hear them like 20 times. It better be like the same songs over and over. But they'll play that song like maybe once every two days they'd start to pick up a little bit more now, but they're for the, like, the first mug. We listen to Christmas music.

00:45:15:00 - 00:45:23:02
Speaker 4
It wasn't playing at all. And I was complaining. I was asking for corporate number. I was like, Why the one song I like doesn't get played right?

00:45:24:01 - 00:45:33:06
Speaker 1
Well, my my guess is because it's such a controversial song, like, not controversial necessarily, but people either love it or they hate it. And so they probably didn't want.

00:45:33:06 - 00:45:36:06
Speaker 2
To hate it. Yeah. Drown out so.

00:45:36:06 - 00:45:36:15
Speaker 3
Much.

00:45:36:21 - 00:45:37:02
Speaker 2
Of it.

00:45:37:02 - 00:45:42:15
Speaker 1
Probably like be conservative with like how often they play it and make it people upset.

00:45:42:15 - 00:45:43:20
Speaker 2
By it, you know.

00:45:45:18 - 00:45:47:16
Speaker 1
Derek your favorite holiday songs.

00:45:47:22 - 00:45:52:05
Speaker 3
So anything by Mariah Carey get skipped immediately when when I'm listening to.

00:45:52:05 - 00:45:53:20
Speaker 4
Christmas is blasphemy but that's oh.

00:45:54:12 - 00:45:54:18
Speaker 2
It's.

00:45:55:14 - 00:45:56:23
Speaker 4
I accept you for your flaws.

00:45:57:06 - 00:45:57:22
Speaker 3
You know it's okay.

00:45:58:01 - 00:46:00:05
Speaker 2
You said you said anything.

00:46:00:05 - 00:46:00:19
Speaker 4
Mariah Carey.

00:46:01:03 - 00:46:04:05
Speaker 2
You hate all of them, all of her Christmas songs.

00:46:04:05 - 00:46:06:15
Speaker 3
I have no problem with Mariah Carey. She's got a wonderful discography.

00:46:07:14 - 00:46:10:16
Speaker 4
But like any of the Christmas songs, No. Why?

00:46:10:21 - 00:46:15:09
Speaker 3
I don't know. Maybe because I hate all I want for Christmas so much that I'm afraid that the other ones are going to be just as bad.

00:46:16:09 - 00:46:25:17
Speaker 1
But I mean, I mean, it's it's so popular that it's one of those things where it just gets ingrained your mind. I think people can get sick of it pretty easily because of that, you know.

00:46:26:04 - 00:46:30:00
Speaker 4
But I'm just saying, like if she if she's singing, she just bells, you know.

00:46:31:16 - 00:46:33:18
Speaker 2
No, thank you. Because literally, did they go.

00:46:33:18 - 00:46:35:04
Speaker 1
To Iowa for Christmas?

00:46:35:11 - 00:46:40:05
Speaker 4
It's like she should really psych everybody out. The whole album should've been her starting, like rule.

00:46:40:05 - 00:46:47:04
Speaker 2
Of the world. And by that, I should.

00:46:47:04 - 00:46:48:14
Speaker 4
Have rolled everybody the.

00:46:48:14 - 00:46:50:15
Speaker 2
Entire album. You know what? If she did.

00:46:50:20 - 00:46:51:17
Speaker 3
I buy it.

00:46:52:08 - 00:46:55:05
Speaker 2
She deserved it. She deserved that. But it's.

00:46:55:05 - 00:46:55:15
Speaker 3
Okay now.

00:46:55:15 - 00:46:57:17
Speaker 4
You do. Mariah, The marketing idea.

00:46:58:14 - 00:46:58:20
Speaker 2
As.

00:46:58:20 - 00:47:18:20
Speaker 3
Far as Christmas music that I actually like, my favorite traditional Christmas song is Do you hear what I hear? I know that's kind of a cool one. That's kind of a weird one. But it was it was my dad's favorite. And and so for anybody that doesn't know and I'm sure a lot of your listeners don't, the reason I bring my dad constantly because he actually died around Christmas, that was very sad stories.

00:47:19:01 - 00:47:34:20
Speaker 3
So a lot of the things that I love so much about Christmas time are the things that he loved and so do you hear What I Hear was his favorite Christmas song. So it always makes me happy, makes me think of him. So I really enjoy that. However, I am a big fan of Michael Bublé and almost any.

00:47:35:18 - 00:47:36:08
Speaker 4
Word for.

00:47:36:11 - 00:47:41:21
Speaker 2
Somebody. This is the time.

00:47:41:21 - 00:47:46:15
Speaker 3
Oh my gosh. Yeah. I'm a big fan of a dude just screaming as loud as I can and.

00:47:48:09 - 00:47:52:21
Speaker 2
Really make a word. Oh, so.

00:47:53:09 - 00:47:57:13
Speaker 3
So short. I'm so sorry. When you edit the audio, the spikes on this thing are going to be ridiculous.

00:47:57:19 - 00:48:01:10
Speaker 2
Oh, it'll be fine. But Michael Bolton is trying.

00:48:01:10 - 00:48:04:12
Speaker 4
To sing outside of everybody's house. He's screaming through the window.

00:48:06:06 - 00:48:10:08
Speaker 2
Oh, Michael Bolton. Get well.

00:48:10:09 - 00:48:28:14
Speaker 3
No, I'm a big fan of Michael Bublé. I really like his Christmas albums that he's put out. And so pretty much anything that he does in the my favorite actually one is is probably the one I sing the most often when I'm having a terrible day at work is Silver Bells.

00:48:29:06 - 00:48:31:06
Speaker 4
I like my Silver Bells are.

00:48:31:24 - 00:48:34:08
Speaker 3
Pretty much any of them. But Michael Bublé has, the best one.

00:48:34:08 - 00:48:34:22
Speaker 1
Is a really good.

00:48:34:22 - 00:48:36:01
Speaker 2
All of them. God, man.

00:48:37:14 - 00:48:42:11
Speaker 4
You just. You. You made me so sad. And I was hoping you were going to say my dad used to sing this to me every night.

00:48:42:11 - 00:48:42:20
Speaker 2
Because.

00:48:44:23 - 00:48:50:13
Speaker 4
I was like, I was just going to leave and come to your house now, just hug you.

00:48:50:13 - 00:48:54:24
Speaker 1
Well, it's funny, as my wife loves Michael Buble Ace Christmas album as well, too.

00:48:55:15 - 00:48:58:04
Speaker 4
But he's a national treasure. Yeah.

00:48:58:05 - 00:49:01:06
Speaker 1
Oh, yeah. Well, and it's in and his album is really good.

00:49:01:13 - 00:49:01:20
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00:49:02:14 - 00:49:12:13
Speaker 1
What what the thing when you said about Do you hear what I hear? I personally hate that song because. It's in Gremlins and I hate gremlins.

00:49:12:14 - 00:49:14:24
Speaker 2
Oh, I love your. I do.

00:49:14:24 - 00:49:24:14
Speaker 1
I think it's just because when I to it when I was a kid like again I think this is actually we probably diagnosed why I don't like horror Christmas films is because gremlins is set around Christmas.

00:49:24:21 - 00:49:25:00
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00:49:25:05 - 00:49:45:15
Speaker 1
Night I love Christmas as a kid and like seeing monsters you know like, you know, killing people or whatever that was happening in that movie during Christmas really ruined it for me. And that was the song that they were playing in that one scene. It just kept playing on the record and everything. So I just I cannot listen that song without thinking of Gremlins.

00:49:45:17 - 00:49:48:06
Speaker 1
So I just it's one of my most hated songs as well, too.

00:49:48:07 - 00:50:15:09
Speaker 4
I'm actually glad I have a question for you. Yeah. Shaun, we have had this debate, not argument debate several times between me and Derek and Colonel Bob. And on the horror Do you know podcast with the other guys. In your opinion, what qualifies that movie as a Christmas movie? Is a Christmas movie to you? A movie that is takes place around Christmas or is actually centered around Christmas because you brought up Gremlins, which is the movie that takes place around Christmas time.

00:50:15:09 - 00:50:28:08
Speaker 4
Right? Right, Right. So is it fair to say that's like a horror Christmas comedy movie? And again, like and it's weird how these genres work is is labeled as a horror movie. I wouldn't even consider Gremlins a horror movie.

00:50:28:08 - 00:50:29:15
Speaker 2
Yeah. And it it's.

00:50:29:15 - 00:50:43:24
Speaker 1
Traditionally not you know, and I think that's one of those things where it's like it just falls under those genres, but kind of cringed a little bit because right necessarily go it, but I actually want to save that question and answer for later for another question because.

00:50:44:02 - 00:50:45:03
Speaker 4
I need to bury the leads.

00:50:45:13 - 00:50:45:23
Speaker 2
No, no, no.

00:50:45:23 - 00:51:07:14
Speaker 1
No, no. That's necessarily fine. So but my my favorite song for the holidays is honestly, again, going back to Spirited. Spirited is creeping up there. Like I've been listening to that album constantly because it's such a it's it reminds you of like a Broadway musical. The kinds of music is stuff like that. And I'm a musical theater kind of guy, so that's getting out there.

00:51:07:14 - 00:51:12:24
Speaker 1
My favorite is always anything from Straight, No Chaser, especially Indiana Christmas.

00:51:13:03 - 00:51:15:09
Speaker 3
I love that song. It's such a good song.

00:51:15:12 - 00:51:32:10
Speaker 1
Such a great song. And the fact that, you know, we're all from Indiana, the fact that there's a holiday song that has the state name and I think is just really cool, but it's a really nice I feel like it's a really moving, like, soothing song, and I absolutely love that. It's one of my favorite holiday songs of the year.

00:51:32:10 - 00:51:41:18
Speaker 1
So our listeners said their favorite holiday Karthik and said, Do they know it's Christmas? I forget. I know. It's like.

00:51:42:01 - 00:51:42:10
Speaker 4
Right, Like.

00:51:42:21 - 00:51:45:03
Speaker 3
Band Aid, right? Isn't that what it was called? Band Aid?

00:51:45:03 - 00:51:49:23
Speaker 1
Band Aid? Yeah. Yeah. And then Husky News said Jingle Bell.

00:51:49:23 - 00:51:50:08
Speaker 2
Rock.

00:51:51:08 - 00:52:06:09
Speaker 1
And then Nefarious Nightmares said, Let find it O Holy Night. So those are their favorite songs. O Holy Night is because I went to, you know, Christmas at school and that was always like a common sign to hear. As I grew up hearing that one.

00:52:06:09 - 00:52:29:07
Speaker 3
Yeah I used to sing that every Christmas Eve. We had a Christmas Eve service at church and I did that song every single for 15 years. And now I can't. I can't anymore. I can't do it. I like it's a beautiful song. I love that song, especially like the Josh Groban version of it. But man, I can't. I can't.

00:52:29:10 - 00:52:30:05
Speaker 3
I can barely.

00:52:31:00 - 00:52:32:00
Speaker 2
Walk. Yeah, Yeah.

00:52:32:10 - 00:52:32:22
Speaker 1
Gotcha.

00:52:33:15 - 00:52:33:23
Speaker 2
All right.

00:52:33:23 - 00:52:38:07
Speaker 1
Next question. Favorite holiday decoration? Derek, you go first.

00:52:39:17 - 00:52:41:07
Speaker 2
Oh, gosh.

00:52:42:05 - 00:52:59:09
Speaker 3
My favorite one When I was a kid. I'll split it up that way. We used to have these decorative Santa mugs and they were like, you know, it was just like Santa face. And he had the top of his hat. And then the the little the little dangle thing. I don't even know what that's called, but the little floppy part.

00:53:00:09 - 00:53:03:16
Speaker 1
This little, little top of the floppy.

00:53:04:05 - 00:53:05:21
Speaker 2
The floppy top hold.

00:53:05:22 - 00:53:19:06
Speaker 3
Around and attach at the bottom and that was the mug. And we had those and it was one of those things where I don't even know where we got them. I don't know if they were my parents, my grandparents or what, but they were out every single Christmas. And I remember thinking that, okay, now it's Christmas time because the Santa mugs are out, right?

00:53:19:17 - 00:53:43:08
Speaker 3
If it's now, I've got a hallmark ornament that I put up every year that has my favorite quote from my favorite scene from Star Wars. It's the scene where Obi-Wan gives Luke Hannigan's lightsaber and you click through the button and the lightsaber lights up. Luke's holding it out in front of them and they're in his heart. And you hear Obi-Wan say, You know, your father wanted you to have this when you're old enough, but you're not going to allow it.

00:53:43:08 - 00:54:00:06
Speaker 3
And you click through that whole scene of him explaining what a light saber is. And it's it's my favorite. And my kids have destroyed it because the bat even changing the batteries won't make it light up. And and do the sound anymore because they would just sit there and just click, click, click, click, click. Yeah, I love that ornament.

00:54:00:12 - 00:54:06:00
Speaker 3
It's still my favorite and it has broken so many times and I have re glued it and I will keep doing it until it is nothing but dust.

00:54:07:08 - 00:54:10:19
Speaker 1
What about you, Ian? I know if I don't have one, maybe, but.

00:54:11:10 - 00:54:16:08
Speaker 4
I really don't know the. Only time I like holiday decorations is when I get to throw them in the.

00:54:16:08 - 00:54:20:23
Speaker 2
Trash and something better. And so.

00:54:21:04 - 00:54:25:05
Speaker 4
Yeah, talk about insult to injury. So I used to work at a Lowe's as well and.

00:54:25:15 - 00:54:26:12
Speaker 2
Oh, me too.

00:54:26:22 - 00:54:42:00
Speaker 4
Really. So in October, like, even like two weeks before Halloween, our store, like we always had a, we always had to tear down the decorations and start putting up like Christmas stuff. I'm just like, it's not even November yet.

00:54:42:01 - 00:54:44:13
Speaker 2
Yeah, it's not even Halloween. Yeah.

00:54:44:23 - 00:55:02:07
Speaker 4
And I always got tasked with, like, resetting all of the steel over the holiday section and putting all the trees and stuff up. And I'm just like, everybody knows I hate this. Why not like the actual work itself? I would rather go up and reaching on the roof right now. Like, why do I have to be one of the put of Christmas.

00:55:02:07 - 00:55:08:15
Speaker 2
Decorations to things I hate to quit? Right? Matter. We get fire.

00:55:10:11 - 00:55:12:23
Speaker 1
That's what they do, man. They give you the worst job so they.

00:55:13:05 - 00:55:14:01
Speaker 2
Know you can quit and they.

00:55:14:01 - 00:55:17:19
Speaker 1
Don't have to, like, you know, give you a what's it called?

00:55:17:19 - 00:55:18:19
Speaker 3
Separate severance.

00:55:18:24 - 00:55:20:01
Speaker 2
Right. So you. Yeah. Yeah.

00:55:20:20 - 00:55:30:17
Speaker 4
So like, two things I had over Christmas and hate and those are the two things that I had to endure every holiday season. Like, Hey, can you run this equipment? Go up to the top? I'm just like, fucking. But, you.

00:55:30:17 - 00:55:33:09
Speaker 2
Know, hey, there's two things.

00:55:33:09 - 00:55:36:11
Speaker 4
In this world I hate.

00:55:36:11 - 00:55:44:05
Speaker 1
Oh, well, with that note, I will go ahead and go into paper.

00:55:44:05 - 00:55:46:15
Speaker 4
Sorry, I'm not full of a lot of holiday cheer, so.

00:55:46:20 - 00:55:48:02
Speaker 2
No, no, it's okay.

00:55:48:02 - 00:55:49:23
Speaker 3
You're going to be Holly Jolly by the time we're out of here.

00:55:50:06 - 00:55:50:14
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00:55:51:05 - 00:55:52:03
Speaker 4
Sure is jolly is.

00:55:52:14 - 00:55:53:01
Speaker 2
Who is it?

00:55:53:22 - 00:55:58:20
Speaker 4
It's my favorite line from Violent Night.

00:55:58:20 - 00:56:16:16
Speaker 1
For me, it's these decorations growing up, you know, because they're a little bit nostalgic. But we would always have these lights on the tree that no, not only did they light up, but there is music that would play with it. And when the music was playing, the lights would blink in sync with the music as well. Oh, okay.

00:56:16:16 - 00:56:37:10
Speaker 1
So that was it, actually. I mean, these lights behind me, it's not the same lights I had grown up, but they do the same thing like there's a box there I can press on and they'll play the music in a blink in synchrony synchronization with it. The other thing that I had growing up I absolutely love and I told my mom this a few Christmases ago because I found out like she got of it a long time ago.

00:56:37:11 - 00:56:40:12
Speaker 2
And it's like, what did you get rid of it? We all love this thing.

00:56:40:20 - 00:57:05:03
Speaker 1
It's this thing called Mr. Christmas Mickey's marching band where it's these Disney characters that are dressed in holiday outfits, but they're holding like a little bell hammer, and they each have a bell and they will head the bells and play different Christmas songs. And so there was like, you know, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Dog, Goofy, Pluto, all of them.

00:57:05:03 - 00:57:19:14
Speaker 1
And it was just really cool to watch because they're all like standing on top of a drum and their Christmas gear and the, the hammers that they're holding were spring loaded. So when they weren't playing like you could actually take the spring, like pull it back and like hit the bell. And we did that.

00:57:19:14 - 00:57:21:02
Speaker 2
A lot, but it was a.

00:57:21:02 - 00:57:33:17
Speaker 1
Lot like we were just playing watch it. And we just we were just really fascinated with it. It's like, you know, the dumbest thing as a kid. It was so great. I loved it was in. So I was really I was really upset when my mom said that she actually got rid of me like years ago and all that.

00:57:33:17 - 00:57:52:05
Speaker 1
So I've been trying to look on eBay to see if I could find it somewhere. And they are selling on eBay, but it's like, you know, 200 bucks for a used one. And now I know I'm just like, I wish I could get it. Like, you know, in good condition or something like that and kind of give it to my mom as a Christmas present one year.

00:57:52:05 - 00:58:04:02
Speaker 1
And that way she could have it back again, all that. But it's just it's way too expensive to get just a used one that, you know, let alone the one that's in really good condition. I'm hoping that they might bring it back at some point, so.

00:58:04:12 - 00:58:06:01
Speaker 2
Mm.

00:58:06:01 - 00:58:09:09
Speaker 1
Well, my trackpad has died again, so let me try to.

00:58:09:09 - 00:58:10:11
Speaker 2
See I.

00:58:10:11 - 00:58:15:21
Speaker 1
Can see these responses on my phone here. Actually it looks like I might able to sell.

00:58:18:16 - 00:58:20:00
Speaker 2
And.

00:58:20:16 - 00:58:50:23
Speaker 1
Give me one second here. So a see there. Dorothy Perkins said his favorite holiday decoration lights exclamation point so very excited about that. Let's see here. He says favorite holiday decoration is the Christmas tree. And then Nefarious nightmare said their favorite holiday decoration is old school eighties Christmas lights, also leg lamp. If he can get a hold of one.

00:58:51:10 - 00:58:52:08
Speaker 4
From Christmas story.

00:58:53:01 - 00:58:55:03
Speaker 1
Which my sister has one of those, by the way, not.

00:58:55:03 - 00:58:56:04
Speaker 4
Only is it major award.

00:58:56:07 - 00:59:15:20
Speaker 1
Yes, now she has that, but they also sold these like Christmas lights ornament type of thing where like it's, you know, three or four inch leg lamp across a whole string of lights, basically. So let's see here. I need to figure out what the next question is.

00:59:16:06 - 00:59:16:23
Speaker 2
Here we go. Okay.

00:59:18:05 - 00:59:25:10
Speaker 1
Ian, do you have a favorite holiday food by chance?

00:59:25:10 - 00:59:40:14
Speaker 4
I don't know that I have a favorite holiday food I like. I know our family, like, didn't do a lot of turkey usually Thanksgiving thing. We did ham for Christmas. Yeah. So? So I do enjoy a good ham. A good glazed ham.

00:59:40:21 - 00:59:41:06
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00:59:42:12 - 00:59:44:06
Speaker 1
But enough. I do not like ham at all.

00:59:45:06 - 00:59:46:05
Speaker 4
Not even a little bit.

00:59:46:11 - 01:00:03:10
Speaker 1
Not. Yeah, not even a little bit. Like. Okay, No shape or form. Do I like ham and in any kind of way. So I feel like I'm that one guy in green Eggs and ham, but they're referring.

01:00:03:10 - 01:00:18:03
Speaker 4
Yeah, I guess if I had to pick like, it would probably be a ham for me because like everything else, like I feel like holiday Christmas food you have during Thanksgiving as well. At least that our family always did. But there you know how I feel about ham how I want.

01:00:18:03 - 01:00:25:08
Speaker 2
All the ham. Oh I go.

01:00:25:12 - 01:00:27:12
Speaker 4
There and I always got that Patton Oswalt joke.

01:00:27:13 - 01:00:27:22
Speaker 3
Yeah, it's.

01:00:28:00 - 01:00:30:24
Speaker 2
Every, every week.

01:00:30:24 - 01:00:31:10
Speaker 1
What about you?

01:00:32:02 - 01:00:59:10
Speaker 3
Oh, my gosh. I for the longest time, I hated Ham as well. So you're not. You're not alone. We would always do Thanksgiving turkey and then ham at Christmas. And it got to the point where I was so gung ho that I wouldn't eat ham at Christmas time, that my grandmother would cook like a turkey breast. Like a full not like a full turkey breast, just for me to make sure that I that it was that it was available to me because I was spoiled.

01:00:59:10 - 01:01:16:11
Speaker 3
If you can't tell by my Christmas presents over the years. But now I have to say it's it's it's an odd one. Broccoli cheese casserole. My mother makes it every single year. Every year she makes like two or three because my brother in law, who's also actually my brother in law, I think is the same height as you, Shaun.

01:01:16:16 - 01:01:24:12
Speaker 3
Oh, is it a little bit taller than I am? Yeah. And he's a big farm boy. And between the two of us, we can kill a nine by 13.

01:01:24:12 - 01:01:24:19
Speaker 2
In.

01:01:25:17 - 01:01:35:09
Speaker 3
Like a second. So she always makes two or three. But yeah, so it's a weird one, but broccoli, cheese casserole, I'm all about it. I will. I would eat nothing but that If you gave me the chance at Christmas.

01:01:35:13 - 01:01:38:06
Speaker 1
I don't think I would have ever expected that answer.

01:01:39:20 - 01:01:40:13
Speaker 2
That would be more so.

01:01:40:20 - 01:01:44:15
Speaker 1
I wouldn't be more surprised. My face was stable to the garbage.

01:01:45:08 - 01:01:52:05
Speaker 2
What was that like for me?

01:01:52:18 - 01:01:56:19
Speaker 1
The little Debbie Christmas tree cake, snacks.

01:01:56:19 - 01:01:57:13
Speaker 2
Oh, God.

01:01:57:13 - 01:01:59:15
Speaker 4
Okay. I didn't even think about that.

01:02:00:04 - 01:02:00:20
Speaker 2
That's all.

01:02:01:11 - 01:02:02:21
Speaker 4
I'm like, throwing the computer.

01:02:02:21 - 01:02:09:15
Speaker 2
Around that little Debbie I love. I honestly like the way.

01:02:10:10 - 01:02:11:04
Speaker 4
You said you.

01:02:11:13 - 01:02:15:00
Speaker 3
Do. Yeah, 100%. I'm saying, look, do you want this to be a debate?

01:02:15:00 - 01:02:16:04
Speaker 2
Oh, by the way, you.

01:02:17:11 - 01:02:20:06
Speaker 3
Whether or not those greasy and yet somehow chalky.

01:02:20:22 - 01:02:23:10
Speaker 2
Things exist, they defy the world.

01:02:23:11 - 01:02:25:11
Speaker 1
Have you had those donkey? I've had one, though.

01:02:25:18 - 01:02:26:12
Speaker 2
Oh, you had.

01:02:26:23 - 01:02:35:10
Speaker 3
Them all the time. I keep giving it a shot. I'm like, Everyone loves these things. I know I'm the outlier. I'm the weird one. I've got to be wrong every time I get. Where are you.

01:02:35:10 - 01:02:35:24
Speaker 2
Getting my.

01:02:36:01 - 01:02:39:18
Speaker 4
You chalky and greasy? Are you getting them from the bag up here to.

01:02:41:16 - 01:02:52:19
Speaker 2
Give me relatively stronger? I not to say like the year from last year, I never had one that meets that description. Yeah.

01:02:53:16 - 01:02:56:17
Speaker 1
Thank you. Because that was. I got to say, it was just like, Where do you get your.

01:02:56:17 - 01:02:58:21
Speaker 2
Little Debbie snacks from?

01:02:58:21 - 01:03:02:02
Speaker 3
I've got them from multiple from grocery stores, gas stations.

01:03:02:09 - 01:03:08:16
Speaker 4
Wherever your neighbor, Little Debbie.

01:03:08:16 - 01:03:10:01
Speaker 2
Oh, my God. That was.

01:03:10:02 - 01:03:13:00
Speaker 4
So what about the ice cream shop? Have you had the ice cream version?

01:03:13:07 - 01:03:14:10
Speaker 1
There's the ice cream version.

01:03:14:14 - 01:03:30:24
Speaker 4
Yeah. They got some at Walmart in the there. You know, they've got all them right. They've got the they've got the Christmas tree ones. They've got like the zebra cakes, the zebra case. I've got the strawberry roll one, cinnamon bun one. There's one of that that you, you didn't know this?

01:03:31:04 - 01:03:32:10
Speaker 1
I did not know this.

01:03:33:06 - 01:03:34:04
Speaker 4
I don't know.

01:03:34:12 - 01:03:37:16
Speaker 1
I know. That's quite dangerous. My Wife apply hate you now because of.

01:03:37:16 - 01:03:39:09
Speaker 2
This They've got them.

01:03:39:12 - 01:03:46:07
Speaker 4
Especially during this time They have them on the end cap of the freezer section That end cap freezer door is usually.

01:03:46:07 - 01:03:47:18
Speaker 1
To go to Walmart tomorrow when.

01:03:47:18 - 01:04:01:10
Speaker 4
I Yeah you will If you if you like the Christmas trees man you won't be disappointed on on these at all. I Can't believe I think they just came out last year didn't they Derek. They did. They haven't been. They're not very old.

01:04:01:15 - 01:04:08:19
Speaker 3
Hey, I just explained how much I hate the little Debbie Christmas tree cakes. You think I'm looking out for the ice cream? I don't know what you're talking about.

01:04:08:19 - 01:04:09:15
Speaker 2
But do you ever.

01:04:09:19 - 01:04:12:17
Speaker 4
Did you ever seen the little Debbie ice cream do any of them?

01:04:12:21 - 01:04:30:22
Speaker 3
No. I try to avoid anything. Little Debbie, like zebra cake related, because all the Christmas tree cakes are just repackaged zebra cakes and it kind of like candy corn. I honestly think that they only made one batch of zebra cakes once, and they're so gross that they just repackage them as something else every year, just like they do with candy corn.

01:04:30:22 - 01:04:33:20
Speaker 3
So I don't I don't I don't pay attention to anything.

01:04:34:00 - 01:04:39:12
Speaker 2
Well, this but yeah, no, I know.

01:04:40:07 - 01:04:55:05
Speaker 1
Oh, my gosh. Yeah. So, Ian showing a picture of the ice cream on the Wal-Mart app, it's clearly, you know, marketed as little Debbie's Christmas tree cakes. I'm glad to tell my wife about this. Now, she'll probably she will definitely hate and like her.

01:04:56:14 - 01:04:56:20
Speaker 2
And.

01:04:56:20 - 01:04:58:08
Speaker 3
You can't talk what's great about that.

01:04:58:08 - 01:04:58:21
Speaker 2
Ice cream.

01:04:59:08 - 01:05:05:00
Speaker 3
What's great about that ice cream is in every spoonful there's a little packet of dusty chalky like cake.

01:05:05:06 - 01:05:08:24
Speaker 4
I'm still not sure what you're eating. And I know.

01:05:08:24 - 01:05:15:12
Speaker 1
You. You might have to make a trip to Indianapolis because I wonder if I quality is a little baby.

01:05:15:12 - 01:05:15:21
Speaker 2
I don't know.

01:05:15:21 - 01:05:19:21
Speaker 3
But I mean, I'm eating the same ones that Ian has.

01:05:19:21 - 01:05:24:06
Speaker 4
True. Here, you're eating yours off of a chalkboard. I don't understand why you're a chalky.

01:05:24:24 - 01:05:25:20
Speaker 2
They're just so the.

01:05:25:20 - 01:05:27:22
Speaker 3
Cake is so dry and nasty.

01:05:28:03 - 01:05:30:09
Speaker 2
Yeah.

01:05:30:09 - 01:05:31:02
Speaker 4
In focus. Now.

01:05:32:15 - 01:05:54:14
Speaker 1
Dorothy Perkins said that his favorite holiday food is mixed nuts, which you can't go wrong. That right Hob squeaks. News said cheesecake and nefarious nightmare said food in general and then said, does eggnog count because they like eggnog? And I am a fan of eggnog. What about you, too?

01:05:55:10 - 01:05:55:20
Speaker 2
No.

01:05:57:05 - 01:06:13:13
Speaker 3
No, I'm You. And I actually just had this conversation a couple of days ago that we were talking about drinks and things like that. And I'm not a fan of eggnog, but then again, I've also only tried nonalcoholic eggnog. And so what I hear is that if you have the adult version of the eggnog, it might be better.

01:06:13:23 - 01:06:14:08
Speaker 2
Right?

01:06:14:08 - 01:06:38:19
Speaker 4
See, that's the thing we on the where, you know, podcasts, actually, when we do our Christmas episodes, Trent will buy a thing of eggnog. And nobody's, like, the biggest fan of eggnog, but he'll buy eggnog and then rum and we'll drink the alcoholic version of eggnog. Well, I think two years in a row I have put about.

01:06:39:10 - 01:06:39:24
Speaker 2
I feel.

01:06:39:24 - 01:06:49:19
Speaker 4
A glass of about this much eggnog. And the rest of it's just the rest of them. So I like I like rum with a splash of eggnog in my island.

01:06:49:20 - 01:07:01:22
Speaker 1
Drink the non alcoholic ones. I don't really drink. So that's the only kind of ever have. And I love it. So I don't know. There I guess maybe, you know, it's just different end of the spectrum.

01:07:02:04 - 01:07:04:17
Speaker 3
Well, and also also you know I already have.

01:07:04:19 - 01:07:08:01
Speaker 4
Is it do Chalky for you? Is that what it is?

01:07:08:01 - 01:07:09:21
Speaker 2
No. You know, you said that I was doing.

01:07:10:05 - 01:07:12:04
Speaker 3
Yeah, I already said that. I was.

01:07:12:04 - 01:07:12:20
Speaker 4
Spoiled, of.

01:07:13:02 - 01:07:20:19
Speaker 3
Course. So I'm also incredibly picky. Like I just got I got scolded by my wife today because I'm such a picky eater.

01:07:21:03 - 01:07:21:15
Speaker 1
Oh, yeah.

01:07:21:15 - 01:07:32:16
Speaker 3
And so, yeah, it is not something that I'm unaware of. I know that I'm I'm the odd one out, but what can you say when you're raised? Just getting to eat whatever you like. That's. That's how it goes, right?

01:07:32:20 - 01:07:32:24
Speaker 1
Yeah.

01:07:33:01 - 01:07:33:15
Speaker 3
I blame you.

01:07:33:23 - 01:07:34:21
Speaker 4
My parents. Why does it.

01:07:35:04 - 01:07:36:12
Speaker 2
Look? I did.

01:07:36:13 - 01:07:39:01
Speaker 4
It. All kinds of disgusting. Thanks. Sam Harris.

01:07:39:04 - 01:07:42:12
Speaker 3
We had 2000 simmer patties are so good.

01:07:43:04 - 01:07:46:17
Speaker 2
What is wrong with you? What are you.

01:07:47:17 - 01:07:49:01
Speaker 3
Somebody like salmon patties?

01:07:49:17 - 01:07:53:00
Speaker 2
I don't like little Debbie anything, you know? No nuts. I mean.

01:07:53:14 - 01:08:00:00
Speaker 3
I don't like anything Little Debbie that has to do with zebra cakes. I will demolish little Debbie treats. Just not the spaghetti.

01:08:00:04 - 01:08:15:14
Speaker 4
But that's what I was saying. With the ice cream, you're like, Oh, no way. Nothing like that. They don't. It's not just the zebra gates, man. They have, like they said, the cinnamon, like the salmon roll things they had that they have the the strawberry Shortcake one. And I know there's a little of the brown, the cosmic brownie.

01:08:15:14 - 01:08:16:10
Speaker 4
They have a girl's heart.

01:08:16:10 - 01:08:23:03
Speaker 3
I don't give a Cosmo brown anyone we got. We got to move on. Chauncey We're going to have us on the show again.

01:08:23:03 - 01:08:27:14
Speaker 1
I'm afraid to ask this one, but what diet was something that might drive you nuts about the holidays?

01:08:27:14 - 01:08:33:02
Speaker 2
Ian Oh, the holidays have a holiday. Yeah, it.

01:08:33:04 - 01:08:35:02
Speaker 4
How much time do we. You just said we had to wrap.

01:08:35:07 - 01:08:37:08
Speaker 2
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

01:08:37:08 - 01:08:46:05
Speaker 4
Let me say, it all started when I was a boy. Uh, yeah, it's just the holidays. That's my answer. Straight across.

01:08:46:05 - 01:08:47:17
Speaker 2
The board. Yeah, in.

01:08:47:17 - 01:09:08:06
Speaker 1
Honesty. And I think that's one of the things that we're just as I think a society just kind of recognizing is that the holidays is not always a great time for everybody. And then for some people it's not a good time, you know, for a number of different reasons and everything. I think that's totally, you know, fine to not enjoy the holidays and everything like that.

01:09:08:12 - 01:09:23:21
Speaker 1
I don't know if you saw this, but I saw this on Twitter the other day, and as much as I love the holidays, like this really irks me where I guess somebody left one of their neighbors a letter in the mail, you know, scolding them for not putting lights up and calling them out. Yeah.

01:09:23:22 - 01:09:26:16
Speaker 3
Oh, no. Grinch or something like that. Yeah, it was ridiculous.

01:09:26:22 - 01:09:30:00
Speaker 1
Yeah, it was really terrible. Just like that. You don't.

01:09:30:00 - 01:09:36:01
Speaker 4
Oh, you guys saw that letter that my neighbor left? I know they made that public. I'm sorry.

01:09:36:19 - 01:09:38:01
Speaker 2
You know, but.

01:09:38:01 - 01:09:38:19
Speaker 1
It's just, you know.

01:09:38:19 - 01:09:40:13
Speaker 2
But like one.

01:09:40:14 - 01:09:59:06
Speaker 1
You don't know. You know why they didn't put the lights up, you know? And there can be a other reasons. And the fact that they don't even try to you know what? It's not their business to find out or anything like that. I think, you know, to jump to this conclusion, because they were just they went to a bunch of, you know, conclusions with why they had done that and pretty much told them they're screwed and everything.

01:09:59:06 - 01:10:07:07
Speaker 1
But it's it's again, it's it's not a jolly time for everybody. And that's perfectly fine. I think we need to keep that in mind in everything. So.

01:10:08:09 - 01:10:08:22
Speaker 2
Yeah. So.

01:10:08:22 - 01:10:11:15
Speaker 1
Ian Totally fine. It's okay, buddy.

01:10:11:21 - 01:10:36:08
Speaker 4
It's just for me, it's a misconception because Christmas is labeled as this holiday a cheerful, joyful time. And, and I know, like, for most, like when you put up your Christmas lights and, like, you are looking pretty festive back there and your lights look awesome. And I'm not I'm not I'm not trying to take that away. Like a lot of people put in a lot of work with their lights and they take it very seriously.

01:10:36:08 - 01:11:02:09
Speaker 4
Clark Griswold style. And that's that's I applaud you for that. I don't have the patience for personally, but I guess my point being is that's awesome. And I like giving gifts just in general. I like making my friends happy or family wherever I'm giving a gift to. It's a good feeling. The problem is most of the people I talk to are usually fake happy during this time, so miserable.

01:11:02:09 - 01:11:27:10
Speaker 4
And it's because of the stress of what Christmas does to people, in my opinion. I talked to a lot of people that are like, you know, I started Christmas shopping around this time it's just so busy. And, you know, around here they said we small town. Usually we have to drive to either like in the Louisville bigger cities like that that that stay open later because a lot of places around here we usually work during the evening and everything closes by seven or 8 p.m..

01:11:27:15 - 01:11:53:19
Speaker 4
Right. Unless you go to Walmart. But you know, you don't sometimes it's more extravagant than that that people want gifts. That or if I have something in mind that I want to get like for example, Derek I wanted to get Bob and Derek something this year for Christmas. I did the same thing for my other podcast. We did a exchange, we did like for a funny gift exchange, and it wasn't like funny was just like fun gifts, right?

01:11:53:19 - 01:12:00:00
Speaker 4
And I got I got Ian Rosie, Snoop Dogg cookbook.

01:12:00:00 - 01:12:01:13
Speaker 2
You know, they have that. It's all yeah.

01:12:01:13 - 01:12:07:23
Speaker 4
It's it says from Kirk to cook on it and it has all these soul food recipes and everything in it.

01:12:07:23 - 01:12:10:02
Speaker 3
It's got that man with big old and he's just like.

01:12:10:09 - 01:12:12:07
Speaker 2
You know, on the front of it.

01:12:12:07 - 01:12:30:08
Speaker 4
And I just I just I was trying to Amazon.com, I said, This is it. And I got it and I wrapped it and and he unwrapped it and I shit you not to this day because this is a few weeks ago I gave it to him. There was a cellophane wrapping over the book. He still, as I opened, he's just like, I can't open it.

01:12:30:08 - 01:12:36:12
Speaker 4
I just think I was like, You can't save it for 20 years and I'll get you another if you want to collect one, right?

01:12:36:12 - 01:12:39:07
Speaker 2
Yeah. Hope it doesn't make me some of that. Make lose in an area.

01:12:39:14 - 01:12:42:03
Speaker 1
So go buy used one. So he doesn't have an excuse.

01:12:42:03 - 01:12:43:01
Speaker 2
Yeah, exactly.

01:12:43:04 - 01:13:02:14
Speaker 4
So what ended up doing was I didn't tell anybody, but I went and got everybody a all three of them and I knew if I told them they feel obligated to get me a gift. Right. To me, that's not what Christmas should be about. It's about giving. And I wanted to get them basically like what you have there and what actually it's more close to them.

01:13:02:14 - 01:13:24:19
Speaker 4
What Derek has. It's the the arm for our microphones. Oh yeah. Yeah. And what was happening was we recorded and live in person and we have this table and four of us set it like one large table and we're across the room or whatever. So like, if we like, we'll take shots on there, we'll go to hand each other stuff and somebody will hit their mike or drop their elbow on the table and they're all condenser mikes and they pick everything up.

01:13:25:03 - 01:13:41:01
Speaker 4
So I'm like, I'm going to get them all this. So I end up getting them this these gifts. And then I got Derek and Bob something, and then Bob brings up like, Hey, on our podcast, we should do a gift exchange, just like, No, we shouldn't do that. You guys something and I wasn't going to tell you because you're going to feel obligated to give me something now.

01:13:41:01 - 01:14:01:08
Speaker 4
So then of course, Derek about it, But I'm such excuse me, Colonel Bob and Derek were just like, Oh, no, we have to get each other's stuff. I was like, No, you don't have to do that. So I think it just puts a pressure on people and a lot of people go a little stir crazy during during the holidays because they get these gifts and they're sitting at home and they're trying to wrap everything.

01:14:01:08 - 01:14:12:17
Speaker 4
And if you got kids, I've never had kids. Surprise. But I feel like it's much harder to hurry up and wrap everything without them coming into the room and oh yeah, yeah, being able to and all that stuff so difficult.

01:14:12:18 - 01:14:17:01
Speaker 1
That's why they go stay at the grandparents house for a weekend so you can get there.

01:14:17:01 - 01:14:17:10
Speaker 2
There you.

01:14:17:10 - 01:14:18:17
Speaker 4
Go. There you go.

01:14:18:17 - 01:14:38:04
Speaker 1
But I mean, that's a valid point because I know somebody had said this on Twitter the other day, and I completely agree with this, is that it is such a stressful financial burden for a lot of people as well, because it's so much money you got to spend at the end of the year, especially for like that happen up in the air for some people.

01:14:38:04 - 01:15:10:13
Speaker 1
Like. So for example, because of our last name, our car registrations for the BMV happens, you know, we have to pay by December and all that. And I mean those things are cheap, you know. And so for a lot of people it can be a lot. And to spend a lot of money as opposed to somebody has suggested, why don't we just like, you know, think about spreading that out throughout the year instead of just having it all be something that's happened at at the end of the year where people are, you know, loading a bunch of money to, you know, try to meet those kind of demands and everything that the holidays can bring

01:15:10:13 - 01:15:28:17
Speaker 1
and all that. And I agree with you. And I think it's one of those things where the whole idea is to spend time with family and, you know, giving gifts should be something that you can give without feeling like you're obligated to give a gift back to somebody if they do. Because I think that's just how the mentality is in general.

01:15:28:17 - 01:15:43:05
Speaker 1
When people give us something that we feel like we're, you know, we owe them something or whatever, and that's kind of goes against it. And so I know, like if if I give someone a gift and they never give me something for the holidays, like I don't think anything of it because I'm like, right, the whole point of it anyways.

01:15:43:05 - 01:15:44:07
Speaker 4
But right, but.

01:15:44:10 - 01:16:06:13
Speaker 1
Totally get like I agree with that is that it's kind of got warped into that a little bit and it's it gets crazier every year and I think that's why the whole, you know idea of like bringing Christmas back to like the presents and everything, you know, the movies and all that is something that just, you know, resonates with a lot of people because every year seems like it gets a little bit crazier.

01:16:06:13 - 01:16:11:05
Speaker 1
And, you know, it's like trying to get back to the whole origin of it so.

01:16:11:17 - 01:16:26:07
Speaker 4
Well, and think about it like if your next door neighbor gets their good stuff and you know what, they got them and they're talking to you about it and it's all these extravagant gifts, and then your kids are like friends of those kids to go to school together. And then they think like, Oh, that's cool. Like, I can't wait for Christmas.

01:16:26:16 - 01:16:47:00
Speaker 4
But your maybe you're in a one income house or you're a single parent, right? And you're keeping all the lights, everything on. And obviously you want to get your kids up for Christmas, so you're going to get a little cheap this year. Well, you know, I don't want you to think that you love them less and know like, I just can imagine that would be stressful as well.

01:16:47:00 - 01:16:58:08
Speaker 4
Like, I know people in that situation, too, where they're just like sort of stress. They're just like, I want to give my kids something real special and something nice, but I feel like I feel them as a parent because I can't do that. And I'm just like, nobody should ever have to feel that way. Right?

01:16:58:11 - 01:17:01:01
Speaker 2
Right. Okay.

01:17:01:01 - 01:17:02:23
Speaker 1
Derek irks you about the holidays.

01:17:03:08 - 01:17:04:09
Speaker 4
You're you still here? Sorry.

01:17:05:05 - 01:17:08:17
Speaker 3
In all honesty, what irks me about the holidays are people that don't like the holiday.

01:17:08:17 - 01:17:10:20
Speaker 2
That I.

01:17:10:20 - 01:17:15:10
Speaker 3
Don't understand that it's the most wonderful time of the year. I despise that. And I think those people are.

01:17:15:14 - 01:17:20:01
Speaker 4
Is it? Did you fall asleep during my rant?

01:17:20:01 - 01:17:21:14
Speaker 2
No. In all honesty, it.

01:17:21:24 - 01:17:39:10
Speaker 3
All jokes aside, that actually is part of the thing that irks me. But it's not the way that that I was saying. That was a joke. I work for the post office and so December is a terrible time of year for us. Like there's there's no getting around it. It is the most stressful, the most exhausting time of work for us.

01:17:39:10 - 01:18:06:02
Speaker 3
I work six days a week, 12 to 14 hour days. I can barely even walk when I get home. It's a lot. But I love Christmas time, so I'm always excited about Christmas. I walk into work singing Christmas carols. I drive on my route, singing Christmas carols. I really enjoy it. And my problem, my biggest problem with Christmas is people that don't like the holiday, that want to make you miserable.

01:18:06:02 - 01:18:24:10
Speaker 3
During the holiday because those people exist too. And those people suck. Because I understand if you don't like Christmas, I'm not going to stand right next to somebody that I'm not going to stand next to Ian and freakin sing Frosty the Snowman into his ear or it's the most wonderful time of the year all locking eyes with. I'm like, Don't you agree?

01:18:24:18 - 01:18:26:06
Speaker 2
Yeah. And I'm not good at Christmas.

01:18:26:06 - 01:18:34:14
Speaker 4
Shame you either. Like if I'm with somebody, like, I work with the guy. Marcus. He loves Christmas. It's his favorite time of year. I think it's ridiculous. However, I respect.

01:18:34:18 - 01:18:36:03
Speaker 2
His wrong opinion and.

01:18:36:17 - 01:18:55:03
Speaker 4
Any time he talks about lights or stuff, I'll give a backhanded comment. Just joking around like, Oh God, I think I'll tell you guys that joke later. I don't know if it's appropriate for this, this podcast. So I'll tell you the joke later to say the picture I sent him. But more of the story is like, I wouldn't shame you for liking Christmas.

01:18:55:03 - 01:19:01:21
Speaker 4
I just I don't it I'm very opinionated about it, but I'm not trying to sway anybody over to the dark side over here.

01:19:01:24 - 01:19:20:07
Speaker 3
Right. And yeah, and so that that bothers me when people are like, I understand that Christmas is not the best time for people. They're one of the reasons why I so desperately try to make sure that Christmas is fun for me and my family is because, like I did mention, my dad died three days after Christmas. He was buried on New Year's Day.

01:19:20:16 - 01:19:40:24
Speaker 3
This is a rough month for me emotionally every single year. And so I want to make sure that I enjoy the time that I have with my family and with in this time of year that were meant to embrace happiness and joy and being together. And so I understand that it's a hard time for for people. I really do.

01:19:40:24 - 01:20:00:03
Speaker 3
I understand that there are people that are going through terrible, terrible times. But don't try and take someone Joy, because because I know misery loves company, but try and take someone else's joy, somebody that's just trying to get through it. And the biggest problem I have with that is a lot of the people that I work with are the ones that are so gung ho about trying to make everyone else's miserable as they are.

01:20:00:03 - 01:20:07:16
Speaker 3
And it's like we already work for the post office. We're miserable already. Can you not have one month out of the year where you try and smile on purpose for the love of all? That's all I.

01:20:07:16 - 01:20:20:05
Speaker 4
Think about the fact that like you, you told me this billions of times that you did the holiday thing with all packages, especially the way the mail was set up. Now they're by orders online. You don't get home at like 9 p.m. Sometimes you don't get to see your family.

01:20:20:05 - 01:20:39:14
Speaker 3
I don't see my family most days. Like I was talking to Ian this week and Thursday was the first time my my youngest son will be two in January, and Thursday was the first time that I got to give him a hug since Sunday because he's when I go to work and he's in bed when I get home, so I don't get to see.

01:20:39:14 - 01:20:53:19
Speaker 3
I forgot that my wife and the kids do Christmas pajamas on new on Christmas Eve. She was like, Oh, I got to get Christmas pajamas for everybody so we can open on New Year's Eve. I was like, When did you start doing that? Because I'm not home on New Year's Eve. They're in bed by the time I get home.

01:20:54:07 - 01:21:13:03
Speaker 3
So, yeah, it's a rough time. But you know what? I come in, whistle, and on Christmas Eve, I'll put pictures up online. I'll put up a tiktoks I go in with bells in my beard. Ugly Christmas sweater on. And I'm going to I'm going to on purpose, enjoy this holiday and you're not going to bring me down. So yeah, that's my biggest my biggest problem is stop trying to yuck.

01:21:13:03 - 01:21:17:20
Speaker 3
Everybody's yum. You suck.

01:21:17:20 - 01:21:38:22
Speaker 1
So so Darth Eakins has said what drives him nuts about the holidays is the greed which I think we all touched on their hobbies gigs, news, how stressful it is with gift giving, which we touch on that as well too. And then nefarious Nightmare said When people get angry about the most expensive item not making it under the tree.

01:21:39:07 - 01:21:41:10
Speaker 1
Karens who Karen around.

01:21:41:22 - 01:21:47:06
Speaker 2
Retail stores and Mariah going Oh.

01:21:47:06 - 01:21:48:00
Speaker 3
Mariah.

01:21:48:14 - 01:21:55:06
Speaker 2
Sorry. What does it mean? I'm just saying. I'm just saying I'm out of here.

01:21:56:00 - 01:22:01:04
Speaker 4
You got to succeeded. You finally you've got to get me buttons because you know how to get me to leave.

01:22:01:12 - 01:22:01:20
Speaker 2
Yeah.

01:22:03:09 - 01:22:27:04
Speaker 1
Right. So last question, and then we'll go into comics that we're reading here. And this is the this is a question that everyone discusses and argues about debates about. This is something that I have had conversations with my boss every year ever since I started working on the team, because we have these, you know, not like hotly debated, like heated discussions.

01:22:27:04 - 01:22:39:06
Speaker 1
But he would make an argument like, why is and I'll make an argument why it's not and all that but is die hard a Christmas movie who wants to he wants to go first with that.

01:22:39:15 - 01:22:41:13
Speaker 4
I'm long winded, Derek, about the subject.

01:22:41:24 - 01:22:43:19
Speaker 2
Oh okay. I all right.

01:22:43:19 - 01:22:49:23
Speaker 3
Well, so am I. So. So Ian was asking that question. Really? I knew that this is where Shaun wanted to hold it. Hold it off to the end. Yep.

01:22:50:07 - 01:22:50:17
Speaker 1
That's right.

01:22:51:08 - 01:22:57:16
Speaker 3
If I'm talking to certain people, I will argue to the death that it's a Christmas movie, that the first time.

01:22:57:23 - 01:22:59:09
Speaker 4
It's col per cent.

01:22:59:17 - 01:23:01:01
Speaker 2
It's like it's Colonel.

01:23:01:01 - 01:23:01:16
Speaker 1
Bob dropped them.

01:23:01:23 - 01:23:03:14
Speaker 2
Yeah.

01:23:03:14 - 01:23:23:03
Speaker 3
We've, we've had this go. He got so mad at me the other day like I don't understand why, why do you have to argue. I was like, well you're the only one to argue with this. I don't care. I consider it a Christmas movie. But then again, I have a I have a separate category that I talk about fringe Christmas movies where it's things that take place around Christmas but aren't necessarily dictated by Christmas.

01:23:23:10 - 01:23:39:12
Speaker 3
My argument for it being a Christmas movie is the fact that John McClane wouldn't have been in it Nakatani Plaza if it wasn't for Christmas party. And that's about it. And also Reginald VELJOHNSON Johnson just came out and said, Yes, there's a Christmas movie. The writer of the movie said, It's a Christmas movie. I know Bruce, the.

01:23:39:12 - 01:23:43:08
Speaker 4
Director, said the same thing. I wasn't going to tell Bob that.

01:23:43:13 - 01:24:00:24
Speaker 3
I know Bruce Willis said it wasn't. But, you know, that's one actor and all these other people are saying, Yeah, it is. But it, in my opinion, it comes down to personal preference. I don't think it matters. It's a great movie, but I will consider it a Christmas movie and I will fight Colonel Bob to the death and no one else.

01:24:00:24 - 01:24:07:23
Speaker 3
I want to.

01:24:07:23 - 01:24:08:10
Speaker 1
Ian.

01:24:09:00 - 01:24:13:08
Speaker 3
Oh, okay. Hang on. Let me settle in. Here we go.

01:24:13:17 - 01:24:20:20
Speaker 4
You know, tend to those question, Sean, We have to really evaluate what is Christmas. Christmas actually dates back to the old time.

01:24:21:20 - 01:24:28:18
Speaker 2
No, I, I it's, it's, it's.

01:24:29:16 - 01:24:44:12
Speaker 4
It's too broad for me, man. I don't know. Like, if you consider die out. I disagree with Derek on one thing Derek says if it wasn't for the Christmas party, John McClane would have never been there at the Christmas party.

01:24:44:13 - 01:24:45:08
Speaker 3
Because it's accurate.

01:24:45:08 - 01:25:09:24
Speaker 4
Which, which makes sense. He wouldn't be there for the Christmas party if it wasn't around Christmas. That makes sense, right? But there are other parties. There are. Could have been a New Year's party. There could have been like a promotion. They got a big, big client because, you know, was one of those business type jobs, too, where like there was like accounts and stuff open up.

01:25:09:24 - 01:25:34:07
Speaker 4
So like there was other type of party. So it could have been it could have easily been in a New Year's Eve party. So I don't agree with it being a Christmas movie because be like if that's if that's a Christmas movie, you throw in Lethal Weapon, you throw in the Gremlins. As an example, Batman returns, Man, Man movies, Iron Man three that all take place around Christmas but aren't centered on Christmas.

01:25:34:17 - 01:25:42:09
Speaker 4
It's the same thing with Die Hard. I get what you're saying, Derek, but like I said, it could have been any other part of it. It could have been anything.

01:25:42:09 - 01:25:46:04
Speaker 3
I'm going to interrupt your longer rant because gremlins absolutely is a Christmas movie.

01:25:46:19 - 01:25:47:12
Speaker 2
Why do you say that.

01:25:48:19 - 01:25:50:10
Speaker 3
Gizmo is a Christmas present?

01:25:50:10 - 01:25:52:06
Speaker 2
Okay, that's fair. That's fair.

01:25:52:14 - 01:25:58:17
Speaker 3
The whole movie is centered around Christmas and it all takes place during Christmas. Gizmo is a president. It's a Christmas movie.

01:25:58:18 - 01:26:00:12
Speaker 1
But Gizmo could have been a birthday present.

01:26:00:21 - 01:26:05:22
Speaker 3
He could have been. But then again, that would have made sense for all those Christmas decorations. The Christmas songs will be played during the entire thing.

01:26:05:22 - 01:26:06:12
Speaker 4
No, but.

01:26:06:12 - 01:26:07:11
Speaker 2
You to see a.

01:26:07:13 - 01:26:08:23
Speaker 1
Story. Just the difference.

01:26:08:23 - 01:26:09:19
Speaker 4
We could have it. Yeah.

01:26:10:06 - 01:26:11:22
Speaker 2
Here's the thing. Okay, I'm kind of like that.

01:26:12:01 - 01:26:13:08
Speaker 4
That's why I said broad.

01:26:13:11 - 01:26:19:11
Speaker 3
Why that matter? What? Christmas vacation could have easily been a Thanksgiving movie if we would have had all the people coming.

01:26:19:11 - 01:26:22:00
Speaker 4
Out celebrating skiing like that. They're being real.

01:26:22:05 - 01:26:25:10
Speaker 3
Have you met my family? And you've been to many of our our Thanksgiving.

01:26:27:07 - 01:26:33:06
Speaker 1
See, I'm with Ian on this again. I'm with you as well. Derek, in terms of I don't think it really matters that.

01:26:33:11 - 01:26:36:01
Speaker 4
It's yeah, it's it's a gray area.

01:26:36:01 - 01:26:43:23
Speaker 1
Yeah. It's like, you know, whatever. Just enjoy it however you want to enjoy it. You know, there are some people who get, like, really heated about this and just like, there are other.

01:26:43:23 - 01:26:44:13
Speaker 3
Things we're getting.

01:26:44:13 - 01:26:45:02
Speaker 1
Mad about.

01:26:45:02 - 01:26:46:23
Speaker 2
Yeah, well, we're.

01:26:46:23 - 01:26:50:02
Speaker 1
Doing really banter. There are some people who are, like, really angry.

01:26:50:11 - 01:26:50:16
Speaker 2
I mean.

01:26:51:01 - 01:26:52:11
Speaker 4
Do you four days over like.

01:26:52:17 - 01:26:55:06
Speaker 2
Yeah, no, it's.

01:26:55:07 - 01:27:05:19
Speaker 4
It's, it's totally fine. Like, I don't consider it a Christmas movie. If Derek does, that's fine. We can agree to disagree. I understand why he does. I just. He understands why I don't.

01:27:06:10 - 01:27:10:18
Speaker 2
Right? Yeah. You know. Yeah, of course I do it because.

01:27:11:01 - 01:27:12:16
Speaker 3
Like I said, it's a fringe Christmas movie.

01:27:13:02 - 01:27:35:17
Speaker 1
Yeah, And I. But I agree with Ian in that I think it's not a Christmas movie. If you can write the story, if you can take Christmas out of the movie and it's still, you know, holds itself together, like if you change the elements of that, it's not Christmas, but you know, the occasion or whatever is different and can stand by its own.

01:27:35:17 - 01:27:57:17
Speaker 1
I think it's not a Christmas and a Christmas movie at that point. So when you think of movies like, you know, the Santa Claus and some of those other things are, you know, traditionally holiday movie, it makes sense because you can't really rewrite it without that in there. Whereas, you know, die hard Batman Returns, you know, all those movies, it doesn't have to be centered around Christmas in order for that story to still hold.

01:27:58:20 - 01:28:13:01
Speaker 1
And so that's that's why I'm always, you know, kind of it's I had to make a decision. I wouldn't have put Die Hard as a Christmas movie because it still would have been a great story, great movie without the Christmas element. It you know, so.

01:28:13:11 - 01:28:21:18
Speaker 4
Without the fact that you were mentioning it, the Christmas party would have never even noticed Christmas time because it was in like California. Yeah, right. So it was it was like.

01:28:21:18 - 01:28:22:01
Speaker 3
Even though.

01:28:22:08 - 01:28:30:16
Speaker 4
It was not snowing or anything. And that's the same way with lethal weapon, lethal weapons in California. There's no snow. It actually rains in the movie.

01:28:30:16 - 01:28:32:09
Speaker 3
So it's rained here on Christmas.

01:28:32:22 - 01:28:33:04
Speaker 2
Yeah.

01:28:33:24 - 01:28:55:22
Speaker 4
I mean, I get that. But like the reason I can argue against what Derek is saying on Christmas vacation carries a little bit of Thanksgiving movie. It's a completely different movie at that point. That whole movie is based around presents, Christmas trees, Christmas joy, Christmas lights, everything about this Christmas. If you take Christmas out of, that movie, it's a completely different movie in my opinion, because there's a lot of Christmas references and stuff, right?

01:28:57:09 - 01:29:06:06
Speaker 4
So that's why I say that. But like I was going to actually bring that up. But Sean hit on if you take Christmas at a die hard, so dire if you take Christmas out of Batman returns.

01:29:06:23 - 01:29:08:12
Speaker 2
It a little bit different of a movie.

01:29:08:19 - 01:29:27:24
Speaker 4
It could still be wintertime with snow and everything but I mean like the Christmas tree scene and everything, not 100% necessary. It just happened to be centered around that time. So I agree that that is also not a Christmas movie. Right. And I agree with your definition of Fringe Christmas as well. Something that takes place but doesn't necessarily revolve around it.

01:29:27:24 - 01:29:28:08
Speaker 4
And the only.

01:29:28:08 - 01:29:35:08
Speaker 3
Reason I even bring that up is because I like there there are movies, you know, like arguing at Christmas now they're like, well, yeah, I do. But there are movies I like.

01:29:35:08 - 01:29:35:19
Speaker 2
To watch.

01:29:35:19 - 01:29:48:22
Speaker 3
At Christmas time that aren't necessarily Christmas movies. They have enough in common with it that I feel like, okay, well, because like I keep getting onto my kids because they don't want to watch anything Christmas, I'm like, This is our one chance. Like, why don't we watch an elf?

01:29:48:22 - 01:29:50:01
Speaker 2
Why, why, Why are.

01:29:50:01 - 01:29:53:07
Speaker 3
We watching How to Train Your Dragon the 5,000,000th time? Let's come on.

01:29:53:16 - 01:29:55:19
Speaker 1
Let's watch it. Have the holiday version of that.

01:29:56:04 - 01:29:56:13
Speaker 2
They do.

01:29:56:20 - 01:30:15:24
Speaker 3
They really do. And it's awesome. But Yeah, I get real, real persnickety at Christmas time because I want to be watching Christmas movies. I want to be listening to Christmas music. You know, I'm going to immerse myself in Christmas. So I don't think about the packages that are literally overflowing me every single day of my life right now.

01:30:16:20 - 01:30:38:05
Speaker 1
Yeah. So the listeners, Dorothy Perkins is diehard, a holiday movie. F knows what he said. He was more explicit. Explicit, but for this F now hobbits geeks, news says yes, obviously. And then nefarious Nightmare said sure, which I feel like is kind of half and a half answer.

01:30:38:06 - 01:30:40:06
Speaker 3
I was just say I was hoping for a tiebreaker there.

01:30:40:06 - 01:30:41:03
Speaker 2
Out of the three and.

01:30:43:08 - 01:30:46:07
Speaker 3
We got absolute no yeah yes and.

01:30:46:20 - 01:30:48:17
Speaker 2
Yeah I guess maybe.

01:30:50:04 - 01:30:56:02
Speaker 1
So. But I have to I have to make sure that my boss hears this so that way he can, you know, be mad at me any.

01:30:56:02 - 01:30:59:23
Speaker 2
And of course. Yeah, of course. Yeah.

01:31:00:03 - 01:31:21:15
Speaker 1
So, well, I have to say that there were some elements of today's episode I had to take out because we're running kind of late on this. I took out some of the questions of you were like expecting some of the questions or hot takes to come up. Unfortunately, I just decided on the on the whim because everything is happening that let's just go ahead and just kind of cut down to this part of the show.

01:31:21:15 - 01:31:42:03
Speaker 1
So that wraps up our battle, the holidays. Let's finish this by talking about the comics we're reading currently. And so it could be, you know, a new issue that just dropped or maybe it's a book that you're working on that came out, you know, years ago or something like that. Derek, What comics are you reading right now?

01:31:42:03 - 01:32:06:11
Speaker 3
Right now, of course, I'm always on the current run of Iron Man, so I'm reading that Avengers forever. They're they're getting into a big crossover with the main Avengers book and some other one but haven't picked up yet. Excuse me, Captain America, Symbol of truth. I'm reading right now. And then also I'm going back because I finally pulled the trigger on the the DC app.

01:32:06:11 - 01:32:08:05
Speaker 3
What is it? DC You know, if.

01:32:08:08 - 01:32:08:18
Speaker 4
Infinite.

01:32:08:18 - 01:32:33:00
Speaker 3
Interest or whatever. And so I'm trying to fill in some holes in my Kyle Rayner books that I didn't read. Like some of the, the, the silence I'm reading Omega Man right now I'll call from right after New Year like right before Rebirth. They did that when he was still the White Lantern and, and rereading Superman birth right I put up a tick tock today with all the sad news of Henry Cavill not coming back.

01:32:33:00 - 01:32:38:20
Speaker 3
I felt like reading a happy story about Superman. So I'm reading Birth Birthright again, which is my favorite Superman story.

01:32:38:24 - 01:32:41:09
Speaker 1
Oh, cool. I have to check that out. I don't think I've read that one yet.

01:32:41:10 - 01:32:42:01
Speaker 3
It's Mark Waid.

01:32:42:15 - 01:32:43:20
Speaker 1
Oh, well, yeah, definitely.

01:32:43:20 - 01:32:45:07
Speaker 2
I think it's excellent.

01:32:45:18 - 01:32:47:01
Speaker 1
Yeah. How about you, Ian?

01:32:48:13 - 01:33:03:23
Speaker 4
A lot. I had a lot of catching up I wanted to do, and then I also wanted to read current stuff. So one thing that I read recently does not DC nor my Marvel going to kind of maybe shock you, but I just finished Archie versus the Predator.

01:33:04:17 - 01:33:05:22
Speaker 3
Oh, that sounds amazing.

01:33:06:02 - 01:33:14:16
Speaker 4
That's a real that's a real series. It's a dark horror. It's a limited series. It's literally Archie versus the Predator.

01:33:14:22 - 01:33:18:13
Speaker 2
But that is yeah, I like.

01:33:18:15 - 01:33:20:11
Speaker 1
To. That does not mix at all.

01:33:20:11 - 01:33:27:15
Speaker 4
Right. Yeah, it's interesting. It's out there, but it was definitely it was entertaining and you've got to spend a lot.

01:33:27:15 - 01:33:28:23
Speaker 2
Of bleep there.

01:33:28:23 - 01:33:54:04
Speaker 4
It's it's it's just so goofy and silly. But that was one that I had finished up. I had caught up on not all the way, but I started reading the new 50 Do Justice League, where Batman sits in the Mobius chair and asks the question about the Joker and. He says, The Mobius cases that are three, which led me to read Batman The Three Jokers finally.

01:33:54:18 - 01:34:29:17
Speaker 4
So I got caught up on that. I was reading a few things, which I don't remember, man, because I was I was going Excellent versus Avengers. I had never finish that. So I just instead of picking up where he left off, I just started over and start reading right. I had been reading some booster gold. I actually like the character Mr. Gold, so I went back and started the first few issues of the new 52 Booster Gold, and then I jumped to the present day because I'm behind on Batman.

01:34:29:24 - 01:34:43:21
Speaker 4
So I had got past the point where they they did like the button. Remember when there was a nod to the Watchmen that convergence do.

01:34:43:23 - 01:34:44:02
Speaker 3
Take.

01:34:44:02 - 01:34:44:14
Speaker 4
Rebirth.

01:34:44:15 - 01:34:45:13
Speaker 3
Rebirth or rebirth.

01:34:45:20 - 01:34:46:06
Speaker 4
When.

01:34:46:07 - 01:34:47:22
Speaker 3
They said I was thinking of the.

01:34:48:09 - 01:34:51:15
Speaker 4
Yeah, that one of the comedians literally called the button.

01:34:52:07 - 01:34:52:11
Speaker 2
And.

01:34:53:10 - 01:35:10:20
Speaker 4
I started reading that. And then I started reading like the Flash, like spinoffs that introduced some of the characters from that main storyline. So right that I bit like I said, I've been reading a little bit. I'm sure there's more stuff I just haven't thought of, but I've been reading every single thinking that I possibly could to catch up and do a to read some old stuff.

01:35:11:03 - 01:35:15:08
Speaker 4
Batman. I'm sorry, It's Superman speeding. Have you ever heard of that one?

01:35:15:22 - 01:35:16:11
Speaker 2
I yes.

01:35:18:00 - 01:35:19:09
Speaker 3
After I talked to you about it. Yes.

01:35:19:09 - 01:35:22:16
Speaker 2
Gotcha. So. So it's it's.

01:35:22:24 - 01:35:46:10
Speaker 4
Superman lands in Gotham City, and he is discovered by Thomas and Martha Wayne. Oh, interesting. And he grows up as Bruce Wayne is still super. He has the powers of Superman, but he dresses as Batman and he can fly around, and it's terrifying. Yeah, He doesn't become Superman to them, to this you. But it was like a it was like a limited, like one child type series.

01:35:46:10 - 01:35:58:16
Speaker 4
So, yeah, it was a it was it was really nice. I like that DC hip hop. I get to read a lot of stuff that I didn't get to read that I've always wanted to. And it saves you. On buying graphic novels unless you just want to collect one, right? Right.

01:35:59:01 - 01:36:00:19
Speaker 1
Oh, that's really cool. Yeah, I to check that out.

01:36:01:11 - 01:36:02:16
Speaker 4
It's interesting.

01:36:02:16 - 01:36:18:21
Speaker 1
Yeah. And you know, I have stacks of unread that I need to do. And I think for 2023, I definitely want to try to get caught up on all those things. So I might do a couple of YouTube videos just kind of showing people like, here are my stacks and and how I'm trying to get through there and everything.

01:36:18:21 - 01:36:34:02
Speaker 1
So like for me, I just finished reading a series from Aftershock called Naughty List that's supposed to be a retelling of Santa Claus. It's definitely adult oriented. It's not a jolly saint. Nick I would.

01:36:34:02 - 01:36:34:16
Speaker 2
Say that.

01:36:35:12 - 01:36:39:07
Speaker 1
Probably worse than David Harbor scene from Violent Night.

01:36:39:07 - 01:36:42:11
Speaker 2
Oh, really? Yeah, because at least, at least.

01:36:42:16 - 01:37:17:02
Speaker 1
There is like some Christmas spirit in there. And not that, you know, this this character, you know, does it have any sort of Christmas spirit either? But he's definitely a lot more how do I say this is definitely a lot more cynical and dark and just grumpier than than the one from io9. But what's what's a bummer about it is that I actually enjoyed it was really interesting story, but it seemed like they were going finish the story but they aftershock decided not to because it was forced.

01:37:17:06 - 01:37:33:22
Speaker 1
It was four issues and the last issue ended with Santa saying that he was going to get revenge on the guy that, you know, this other immortal that just killed like one of his elves. He's like, now I got to learn to, like, figure out how to kill an immortal. And apparently that's it. That's that's.

01:37:34:06 - 01:37:36:00
Speaker 2
The series. Oh, no. Yeah.

01:37:36:00 - 01:37:48:00
Speaker 1
So I don't know, like, and it says, like, you know, this is when I bought it, I bought it digitally. It says, you know, you could buy the whole series and whole series. And pretty much those were issues. So I my guess is they just discontinued, you know.

01:37:48:03 - 01:37:49:04
Speaker 3
Oh, I hate that.

01:37:49:08 - 01:38:04:04
Speaker 1
Yeah. So but now, you know, it's a bummer. I never lose sleep over it either. So so what I'm going to start doing is actually reading. I started this and got to get back to it, but it's DC's latest grifter got ran over by reindeer.

01:38:04:15 - 01:38:05:07
Speaker 2
Oh, nice.

01:38:05:10 - 01:38:08:12
Speaker 1
Yeah. It's their holiday ritual where they have a bunch of, like, one shots and.

01:38:08:16 - 01:38:09:13
Speaker 4
He gets no respect.

01:38:10:03 - 01:38:10:16
Speaker 3
He gets no.

01:38:10:16 - 01:38:12:12
Speaker 2
Respect. I haven't.

01:38:12:12 - 01:38:14:24
Speaker 1
I picked this one up. Star Wars Visions.

01:38:15:15 - 01:38:16:08
Speaker 3
Oh, nice.

01:38:16:10 - 01:38:17:02
Speaker 4
Okay.

01:38:17:02 - 01:38:32:16
Speaker 1
I really like the show. It was fun on Disney. Plus, it was a first animated that was just like, okay, I can get behind it because I never was a fan of animation who I watched. I was like, This is really good. So I heard they did a comic on it. So I picked that up and and decided to read it.

01:38:32:16 - 01:38:38:01
Speaker 1
And then I got to read Superman and Son of Kal-El. Like the last few issues, I keep saying that I'm going to start it and I have not started.

01:38:38:18 - 01:38:40:04
Speaker 2
So I need to.

01:38:41:12 - 01:38:45:00
Speaker 3
I haven't read a single issue that run. So you're well ahead of me. I got nothing.

01:38:45:08 - 01:38:50:10
Speaker 1
Yeah, I got all 18 of them now, so I got to sit down and read through our idea over the break. So.

01:38:50:18 - 01:38:56:02
Speaker 4
So you do you guys like holiday themed, like comic books, like Christmas? Like countless?

01:38:56:03 - 01:38:58:01
Speaker 2
Yes. No, I think I'm.

01:38:58:01 - 01:39:01:17
Speaker 4
Starting to pick that up now that you've told me what kind of what you're reading. But I.

01:39:01:17 - 01:39:06:23
Speaker 1
Well, I made a whole list on League of Comic Geeks of holiday holiday themed comic books.

01:39:07:08 - 01:39:08:03
Speaker 4
Oh, nice.

01:39:08:03 - 01:39:29:11
Speaker 1
Yes. So, like, yeah, I read all of them. These are there's some that I've read and then there's some that people have suggested, but there are some really good ones out there. Like there's one that I think is hysterical. Well, really too, but one is from Marvel and it's Deadpool gets hired to kill Santa.

01:39:29:11 - 01:39:40:13
Speaker 4
I don't know if this was on your list, but I actually think that my birth was prophesized because they wrote one about me and it was called Superman The Man Who Hates Christmas.

01:39:42:02 - 01:39:42:10
Speaker 2
And it's.

01:39:42:10 - 01:40:06:10
Speaker 4
About man. It's about a man by the name of this is his actual name in the comic Jasper Casper. And he hates Christmas. So that he decides to start this diabolical plan where he travels in the North Pole and begs Santa Claus like cookies or something that just to make him fatter to the point where he can't go deliver presents.

01:40:06:21 - 01:40:13:09
Speaker 4
That was his plan. And Superman finds out that, Oh, yeah, Jasper Esper's going to sabotage Christmas. He's like.

01:40:13:12 - 01:40:17:16
Speaker 2
Not on my watch writing down the And I.

01:40:17:16 - 01:40:23:03
Speaker 4
Was just like, God, this is made. Yeah, this is Batman, obviously.

01:40:23:10 - 01:40:45:04
Speaker 1
Oh, that's a really good one. I just read that this year. I absolutely love it. It's a really great piece of work. Yeah, I love it. Well, I also people from Comic Watch as well as Twitter and from our Discord that we have what they're reading. So I would be very quickly here because I know where you know, this is a very long episode already, but this is what they've been reading.

01:40:45:04 - 01:41:04:14
Speaker 1
So Miriam Herrera from Comic Watch said that she's reading My Hero Academia, which I have not read yet, but I've heard really great things about it, she says, tears like legit one breaking my heart, hyperventilating tears. So apparently it's very emotional, very powerful. Yeah. Bratz from Comic Watch, The New Warriors from 19.

01:41:04:14 - 01:41:05:05
Speaker 2
90.

01:41:06:03 - 01:41:36:00
Speaker 1
Hard Choices By got a bunch of the name here and the and Bagley. I have no idea if I pronounce that right or not. Probably not Costarring the Punisher with Bingle and the forces of nature as the antagonist. If people think today's comics are political, they should check out this book. This is chock full of it. It deals with fallout from the Vietnam War, gang violence, deforestation of the rainforest, extremist political activism, activism, etc. So I'm going to have to check that out.

01:41:36:00 - 01:41:37:17
Speaker 1
Now, That sounds really interesting.

01:41:37:19 - 01:41:38:16
Speaker 3
Yeah, that sounds wild.

01:41:38:21 - 01:41:39:06
Speaker 2
Yeah.

01:41:40:03 - 01:41:58:03
Speaker 1
Then Dustin Gable from Comic Watch as well, said Marvel two and one from 2017 is still the best Fantastic Four book of the last five years, with sharp writing from Zdarsky, which I didn't realize that Dushku wrote a Fantastic Four book. So Killer line work for Jim Cheung and the layer of.

01:41:58:03 - 01:41:59:00
Speaker 2
Shady.

01:41:59:10 - 01:42:11:01
Speaker 1
Chung's been grim is a tragic figure full of emotional nuisance. You can't help but feel the heartbreak in every bit of the penciling. Wow. Like that's a sold me on that right there.

01:42:11:01 - 01:42:11:09
Speaker 2
Yeah.

01:42:12:18 - 01:42:32:03
Speaker 1
Then from our Discord channel, Ken from the podcast said They're currently reading The Black Ghost and Blood Oath by Alex and on Comixology and Rogue Sub by Ryan Parrott. Then the So Wizard podcast said that they're reading the Batman Spawn series. Have you all read any of this or have any interest in reading it?

01:42:33:06 - 01:42:40:18
Speaker 4
No, I have an issue of Batman and Spawn from like the nineties and I own it, but I've actually read it.

01:42:41:01 - 01:42:41:13
Speaker 2
Okay.

01:42:42:04 - 01:42:46:20
Speaker 3
I haven't, I haven't checked it out either. I haven't read a Spawn comic in 25 years.

01:42:47:11 - 01:42:51:15
Speaker 1
I've never been a fan of Spawn like it just. Never. It just never interested me.

01:42:51:15 - 01:42:53:21
Speaker 3
So I like the character, but I just.

01:42:53:21 - 01:43:00:03
Speaker 4
Never saw an interesting character. Not interesting enough for me to read a whole issue, which I know is kind of silly to say, Yeah.

01:43:00:21 - 01:43:23:17
Speaker 1
The only interaction or the interaction, the only experience I've had with Spawn is from the movie that came out in the nineties, you know? Yeah. And that was a, I mean, not hokey movie, but like if that was your first experience of survival and you're just like, What is this? So when they announced it, I just, I personally wasn't interested in it, but I have heard a lot of people have been really liking it.

01:43:23:17 - 01:43:42:07
Speaker 1
So then last but not least on Twitter, Ebony Z06 once said that they're currently finishing the Dallas manga series. Absolutely. Love is like psychological horror, good story and great art. So these are really good comics. I'm going to have to put on my list of to read on the back end of all my.

01:43:42:16 - 01:43:42:20
Speaker 2
Two.

01:43:43:11 - 01:44:00:03
Speaker 1
And all that. So no, but this is really good. I'm glad to hear what everyone's reading. It sounds like there's some really great ones out there that are currently out as well as some the ones that's been around for a while as well too. So. So that is it for this episode. Derek and Ian, thank you very much for coming on the show.

01:44:00:03 - 01:44:06:15
Speaker 1
Before I let you all go, do you want to share where people can find you and your work or your podcast online?

01:44:07:02 - 01:44:08:20
Speaker 2

Speaker 2
It's there. Yeah, it's there. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

01:45:06:21 - 01:45:25:11
Speaker 4
We're worried about gas, like I said, like subscribe and everything. We're not on YouTube yet. We do have a tik-tok page that we do what we do. This came up with the and actually made these puppets of us to where we react to everything. With the puppets. He actually made hand puppets. I got to watch this now. Yeah, they're pretty good.

01:45:25:11 - 01:45:49:07
Speaker 4
And we do we do advertising for the show and stuff through Tik Tok with the puppets and stuff. I recorded a, I hosted the Jeepers Creepers episode and I introduced the episode as my puppet. And it's just the most thing you've ever seen. So check that out immediately. And it's a little early, but every year now, the Ohio Theater in our town here they do.

01:45:49:12 - 01:46:06:09
Speaker 4
We're starting this horror festival and we're going to be doing that again. We did one this year. It was a Friday, Saturday thing. We're doing it again next year. So try to get on Facebook like a similar thing. We'll be doing updates on that as well. Like I said, I know it's really early, but we're looking for suggestions and stuff on that, too.

01:46:06:09 - 01:46:07:14
Speaker 4
So. All right.

01:46:08:04 - 01:46:10:17
Speaker 1
Also, well, thank you both very much for coming on the show. I really.

01:46:10:17 - 01:46:13:10
Speaker 4
Appreciate it. And thanks for having me.

01:46:13:18 - 01:46:14:13
Speaker 1
A day as much.

01:46:14:16 - 01:46:22:03
Speaker 4
As you can. I feel like that was directed towards a certain individual directed.

01:46:22:05 - 01:46:25:00
Speaker 1
I want to be inclusive, though.

01:46:25:00 - 01:46:26:10
Speaker 4
I love it.

01:46:26:14 - 01:46:35:09
Speaker 1
Because not everybody in the holidays is not, you know, great for everybody. So I just want to be inclusive as much about as possible. So. Well, thank y'all.

01:46:36:21 - 01:46:38:04
Speaker 4
Thank you, man. Praise Janice.

01:46:39:03 - 01:46:53:06
Speaker 1
